Sleep

What times are people getting their little ones to bed at night? My little boy goes down between 9-10, wakes up after 8am and probably has over 4 hours sleep during the day total over 2 naps… he loves sleep! But I’m not getting any alone time in the evenings… advice on how to get his sleep schedule a bit earlier? I know waking up earlier is obvious, but he just sleeps longer in the day!

730pm wakes around 630-7am 2 naps through the day, around 3-4 hours in total

@Jenny when do you cut their last nap? Do you push to make their last wake window bigger?

7-7.30pm wakes 7-8am and gets 2-3hrs daytime sleep over 2 naps.

I would wake up earlier then cut the naps so they get only 3 hours of nap time during the day so one nap for 2 hours and the other 1 hour and then they’ll get tired earlier and then will be ready for the day after 11-12 hours of sleep at night

Advice I’ve had from a sleep consultant…try a consistent wake up time every morning and bedtime should be no earlier than 12 hours after this, so if you want to put your LO down at 7pm, wake them at 7am latest. Cap naps at 3 hours total across the 2 naps and ensure that the last nap finishes at least 3.5 hours pre bedtime. Our recommended schedule was 7am wake everyday, 9:30-11 nap 1, 2-3:30 nap 2 and 7pm bedtime and it seems to be working well

My first born was like this... once he was on the move and burning more energy throughout the day his bedtime naturally moved forward. By the time he was walking independently (15 months) it was like 7pm with one midday nap. x

I would rejoice in the fact you get that much sleep!! Our baby goes to bed around 8.30/9, wakes at 12/1, wakes at 3/4, and this morning was up at 6.15…. I would love a night of uninterrupted sleep! She also doesn’t like napping in the day…

@Paige she tends to nap. 10-11 then 2-4

I think 4 hours day sleep is too much so you want that last wake window to be starting at around 3:30- 7:15/30 but this is hard as he wakes up late. My baby wakes at 6:30. Sounds like you’re getting lots of sleep! ☺️ 6:30 wake up 9:30-11 nap 1 2:30-3:30 nap 2 7:00/7:30 bed time

Hi Paige, the best indicator of your baby’s sleep quality is how well they sleep at night. If your baby is sleeping through the night without interruptions and has around 4 hours of sleep during the day, that’s great. However, if your baby is waking up multiple times during the night, you should consider reducing their daytime naps. Keep in mind that this also depends on their age. The important is for them to sleep during the night not during the day. Create a good schedule with the appropriate wake windows, a good bedtime routine and all sorted: more time for you in the evenings 🫶🏼

My little boy sleeps well in the evening, if he is co-sleeping. But not in his cot.. which is also what we are trying to work on more. Thank you all for advice! Today is the day of less sleep for little man 😅
