Premature baby milestones
Hi all. My little girl was born 5 weeks early and is now 8 weeks and 1 day old. She still hasn’t social smiled yet and the health visitor is coming back tomorrow because she hadn’t smiled at 6 weeks. Is this normal? I would expect a premature baby to be delayed on milestones but HV said we should go by her birth date not due date. Not sure whether to be concerned we haven’t had smiles yet! Hey! My little one is in the same boat. We got our first smile today which was surprising!! Before today, Our HV said not to worry at all, expected not to hit these milestones just yet though. All Health Visitor seem to have different opinions which does make it hard but according to her most premature babies catch up by the time they are too and can experience delayed milestones until then. He is my second baby so I have tried not to get as fussed or het up by milestones this time. Xx
