So far blitzing it on it's own done apple, carrot, parsnip, banana with a bit of lemon and it went down well.
Start plain - no need to make things taste ‘better’ with seasoning until they are a lot older. Starting from scratch. I didn’t ever feel I needed to add formula with my first bit that won’t hurt I guess
@Nicole brilliant! How blitzed have you been doing?
@Jess thanks :-) I saw on the Ella’s kitchen weaning guide to add things like cumin and basil 🤷♀️
Very smooth no lumps
That’s fair enough! It’s just preference I guess but personally I don’t think they need to taste herbs until a while off / so many foods to learn and try first. Adults add herbs etc to foods to change/enhance taste etc where as to somebody who’s never tried it, it doesn’t need to taste enhanced I guess!
@Jess very true!
I’ve added a good bit of formula to the veg (I put it in bit by bit til I get the purée to the consistency I want) As he’s got used to it I’ve reduced the amount of formula and he’s dealing well with thicker textures quite quickly
We add a bit of cooled boiled water to make the purées thinner, we’ll start making jazzier purées once we’ve gone through all of the veg (just doing plain veg at the moment)
@Lucy have you tried a different veg each day and how much have you given? I started yesterday with a bit of broccoli and he literally didn’t even take a quarter of a teaspoon 😂 the faces he pulled too were hilarious! Anything he’s not meant to put in his mouth he shoves straight in and then this he was closed firm shut! 🤦🏼♀️
My LB is like this. Anything he can grab is straight in the mouth apart from food. We just persist every day, try new veg most days, have retried some as well. I or my husband eat at the same time and just show him what to do basically. But he’s starting to take purées now. And he likes sips of water too. But we’ve been trying for about 4 weeks and it’s taken this long 😂
@Lucy aww what a cutie! We had some more success with carrot 🙌🏼😂
I’ve added a bit of formula which is his normal milk to some to help smooth it a bit more. My LB likes puree that’s smooth at the minute compared to a chunkier texture. I’ve read a few places that plain is good initially and gradually mix veg and fruit then herbs ect further down the line but everyone is different and every baby is different! Mine is taking ages to be interested in it 😂
