@Emma we were specifically told to start as soon as she turned 1 year by our dietician and paediatrician
@Jade yeah i understand they tell people sooner and later
I was told if they fail the milk ladder you stop for 6 months?! I would speak to whoever you’re under medically, assuming the hospital? Before you start to do anything else, I’d stop for now and speak to the hospital before proceeding!
Gosh, we’re all getting wildly different advice aren’t we. I started my little guy on the milk the ladder at 10 months, failed on half a biscuit with horrible diarrhoea, like your LO, it went straight through him much quicker than the formula challenge. I was told to wait 6 weeks then start again with a smaller amount x
Did she eat anything yesterday that could have caused the colour? Blueberries, prunes etc? It does seem very quick to have caused an issue but also depends how severe her reaction was to start with. We were told baby had to be clear of dairy for 6 months before starting the milk ladder initially and then you wait 4-6 weeks if you aren’t 100% sure there was a reaction when reintroducing
@Skye our dietician has barely given us any guidance, they’ve not been great throughout! I’ve called but it’s just a voicemail service that they hardly ever respond to
@Shenel you’d think there would just be a standard approach wouldn’t you!! How did you get on the second time? X
@Jade we haven’t started again yet, poor little guy has had a run of viruses, a few hospital trips and he’s having his adenoids removed later this months so we’re waiting until he’s all settled after that to try again x
We have a dietician appointment this month and my baby will be 11 months, I think they're planning to start us on it by the time she's 1. Although, she was given a couple of Heinz Biscotti biscuits at nursery and she had loose nappies for 24hrs afterwards! The first one happend that evening, so a few hours later, so I'm not holding out much hope!
@Lauryn my camera hasn’t really picked up the green colour very well, her poo is usually purple tinged because she has berries for breakfast and quite formed. Her reaction wasn’t severe, just a rash, reflux and frequent mucousy nappies, she’s been on Nutramigen from 8 weeks. She did have a tiny vegan cupcake yesterday which she’s never had before but that’s the only ‘new’ thing as I’d assume there’s sugar, additives in there she wouldn’t have had. My partner did say her poo was a bit wetter than normal first thing this morning (before the biscuit) so now I’m even less sure on what to do!
@Jade ours are crap as well unfortunately!! Might be worth asking in one of the big CMPA groups on Facebook too? X
I’d speak to your babies dietician (should have been referred to them right at beginning of trying intolerance formula). My dietician recommends trying 6 months after starting the new formula, so for us is now at 10 months, if we feel ready, if not to try at 12 months. If any reactions to then wait another 6 months to try again.
Ours is not that severe and paediatrician was useless, so got all info i needed plus Q&A doing this ladies CMPA course https://www.instagram.com/childrensdietitian?igsh=amphaW91NHhjamcw this was a super helpful thing
Okay so they advise to wait until around 15months to start the milk ladder but now she has had a reaction you should stop for a week or so and then start again
