@Francis thankyou! this is so helpful
They will check the blood flow from umbilical cord/placenta. When I was having my growth scans she was between 3rd & 10th percentile and they weren’t that worried until it drops below the 3rd. I wouldn’t worry too much! My little one was “measuring”5lbs 3oz 2 days before she was born. 6lbs 2oz when born, she just measured really really small so they can get it wrong. I wouldn’t worry xx
The scans are much more accurate than the bump measurements, which is why they send you for a scan if concerned. There is always a margin for error - it is somewhat dependent on the skill of the person doing the scan! At any growth scan they will take a bunch measure of measurements of the baby - legs, belly, head etc. The computer then estimates the weight and percentile of the baby. Top 10% and bottom 10% are normally when they are concerned. This doesn’t mean there’s necessarily anything wrong but they will probably want to do more scans if your baby falls into those two extremes. At the scan they will also check that the baby seems generally well (heartbeat) and the placenta/cord is functioning ok. You will be told pretty much straight away if there are any concerns and should be told of next steps (if any).
