I might be delusional (which is highly likely after dealing with CMPA for the last 5months), but when weaning can someone explain to me how a bad nappy (looser/colour change/diarrhoea/mucus etc) means that food is a fail? I’m genuinely confused, because we are giving our babies something they have never eaten before and expecting no change at all to their nappies? I have read so many people saying that mucus is a sign of a ‘fail’ straight away, but at this point this would mean my baby can’t even tolerate broccoli if I followed that rule! I just don’t understand, because if I eat something that I haven’t eaten before or is quite rich etc then my bowel movements change too, but I wouldn’t be calling it an allergy?!

Following. Great question

I just don’t understand?! And I might be missing something but surely we would be expecting some sort of bowel change when introducing something other than milk?!

For allergy you are looking for combination of symptoms really, skin/ digestive/ respiritory & nose and eye. Sometimes like you said they are getting used to a food or there are some signs but it can be hard to tell. It's trial and error really, take the food out and re introduce and symptoms track again, baby may develop a worse reaction each time if they have an allergy or may tolerate better each time or symptoms may be the same and they have an intolerance. It's really not a clear cut thing unfortunately!!
