Breastfeeding was fine and now it hurts

My LO is 7 weeks old and breastfeeding has been easy for us until now. Today every feed, for the entire feed HURTS. I have taken him off and relatched a few times even though it feels and looks normal but when he’s sucking, it hurts a lot. I finished feeding him half an hour ago and my nipple still stings. I’ve had my latch checked by two breastfeeding specialists (not because there was an issue, just had the opportunity at the hospital and as part of a postnatal course) and a very experienced midwife, and I just don’t think that’s what it is… any ideas? I’ve some nipple shields that I’ll experiment with tomorrow but, to me, it seems odd that everything has been fine until now.

Have you had your latch checked recently? I needed a new position around 6 weeks as my LO had grown x

@Rebecca less than a week ago and I’ll get the midwife to check it again on Friday

Has he been cluster feeding?

@Liz nope, it’s really a mystery!

Have you checked his mouth for thrush that may have been transferred to your nipples?

I had this the other day with my 12 week old where I think he got me a bit wrong on one side because my left side hurt for a couple days when he fed on it but it went away quickly. You could put a bit of breastmilk on it, they always swear by that. And silverettes are meant to be really good in the early days with pain, maybe you could try them?
