Nipple shield & breastfeeding

Hi Mamas! Wondering if anyone has had experience breastfeeding with a nipple shield and if that has been overall a good experience? I have been using one for a month now because baby still kind of refuses to latch but I am terrified about the fact that I was told that the shield impacts transferring of the milk, although she is gaining weight regularly. Anyways, maybe I am overthinking it but thought I’d ask around and learn from you!

Hi Dimitria, I had to use the nipple shield for about 4 months until my baby latched properly. She’s now 9 months and breastfeeds like a champ. I hated having to use the shield but it works and just keep trying to see if your baby will latch onto the nipple from time to time. Feel free to message me if you wanted to chat about it

I’ve been using them on and off and it’s been fine. If baby is satisfied after feeds and gaining weight I wouldn’t worry about it. I don’t know who told you that but it sounds like made up bullshit. How could it possibly interfere it’s just acting as an extension of your nipple. People say lots of things without having facts to back it up. I would ignore what was said. I think of it as a tool to help my baby latch and eat. Just like a bottle. My only issue with the shields is how much milk they collect and we both end up soaked in milk lol. I have to use a burp cloth as a barrier for both of us.

@Tarah I have to use a burp cloth as well! Haha Thanks so much for sharing!! ❤️❤️
