Combination feeding

My little one is 3 weeks old. I have been breastfeeding since birth however as she is getting bigger I’ve realised she is never full when breastfed. I’ve been giving her formula between feeds and I’m just gutted that my milk is not enough. It’s definitely there but not enough. My baby starts sucking on her hands after 10 mins even though she was on the boob for 20-30 mins. I feel like the mental side of things is getting tough for me should I just carry on with formula or keep going with the combination feeding… all really tough :(

This doesn’t mean baby isn’t getting enough sounds like cluster feeding to up your supply which is tough but so normal in the early days. I’d really recommend researching the normal behaviour of a breastfed infant - Lucy Webber on instagram has lots of easy to digest info! If they’re having lots of wet and dirty nappies and gaining weight they getting enough. My baby fed less than every hour at that age. If you’re wanting to continue breastfeeding ditch the formula asap. It’ll mess with your supply if you’re not pumping each time you’re giving a bottle x

agree with the above comment, and in addition - sucking in their hands doesn’t mean she’s necessarily hungry! it’s totally normal when they begin to discover their hands to put them in their mouth 99% of the time even after a feed😅 defo ditch the formula though as that will lower your supply, only way to increase your supply is to keep her on the boob as often as she needs.

I went through the exact same feeling and thought my milk wasn’t enough as she was cluster feeding SOOO much but everyone reassured me that since her nappy output was good, that she’s fine. I persevered through and now passed the cluster feeding (for now) and she’s taking less time to empty the breast. Please wait it out xx

I agree with the above. It is super normal for young babies to feed literally every 30 mins. It doesn’t mean they aren’t getting enough, it is what they do to boost your supply. Giving formula will stop you building sufficient supply so I agree with ditching the formula.
