Speech

My son is 2 years 3 months and only recently has he really started using his words. Still mostly single words but occasionally a 2 or 3 word sentence so I know he's still figuring it all out and has come soooo far even since January. However he is struggling with the 'L' sound. For example my 2 cats bella and harley are 'beha' and 'harwee', bluey is 'booey', leg is 'egg' and hello is 'heh o' Is it normal for them to have certain sounds that maybe take a bit longer or are hard? Any tips or ideas to help him along? I've been really trying to exaggerate my L's when I talk to him

It is very common for them not to be able to say certain sounds and it takes them longer to work out how to say them and some sounds are harder to make then others it will all come in time and your doing the best thing but showing and letting him her how it sounds maybe let him feel what shape you mouth makes when you say certain sounds with his hands or break words down into sounds?

Yes. My daughter used to say balk instead of milk. Maybe make it a game and see how long you can make the l sound for. Kind of like ssssss for snake. Or break it up by clapping bell-la blue-ey

100% my 5 year old cousin still calls my little girl “kawi” instead of Kali. It comes with time x

Thanks ladies. I didn't want to rush to conclusions because really he had only a handful of words when he turned 2 so he really has come an amazingly long way since then but figured it didn't hurt to ask. Appreciate the reassurance
