Spitting up

My baby is 8 days old and she’s wanting to breastfeed but keeps being sick from it. Had that ever happened to anyone? What should I do, I’m so worried🥺

So there is a big difference between puking and spitting up! Spitting up is very very normal in babies while their tummy’s adjust to the milk! If she is puking like from the gut or you feel like it’s very excessive it would be worth it to check with your doctor as she could have some kind of intolerance.

My baby spits up a lot but it’s normal, just messy. How much sick? It’s amazing how little liquid looks like a lot too. X

It’s not crazy amount but often and there are little pieces in it too?

Oh we had this big time, BF and would throw up entire feeds, sometimes watery and sometimes mucus-y from the stomach, it was exhausting! Just make sure youre burping well, the baby’s up right and no pressure on belly, and just expect sick… it will happen a lot as the baby is new to feeding and their muscles need to strengthen, ours eventually got better on her own and hardly sicked from 3-4 months+ however do seek advice from health care workers and drs too - we got given baby gaviscon but never used it x

I also cut out lactose as i find that makes her sicky! M&s do lactose free milk - unsure how real / true it is but im certain when i have milk shes worse?!

@Rianne your milk will always have lactose in it. It's the main sugar in breastmilk

Completely normal to have little bits in it. Also spit up is completely normal. They also BF for comfort too 😊 As they get older they spit up less. It's actually pretty normal to get a bit of spit up after every feed!

@Charley this has blown my mind! I feel my whole bf journey is a lie 😭🤣
