Expressing

Hi, When is the best time to pump if I’m still breast feeding and just want to introduce bottles to baby? I’ve got the momcozy m5 and just pumped after a feed for 5ish mins and didn’t get much out. Thanks!

I also breast feed but started to pump so we can give her bottles. I usually pump for 15 mins after a feed, morning time is my best supply

I do my pumping at night after my baby goes to bed and before I go to bed then first thing in the morning after her morning feed. Keeps the milk flowing and helps me not get engorged. That way I have a little in the freezer and can have some “me time” on the weekends to go run errands by myself 🙂

If you pump first thing in the morning you’ll get the most. I used to pump after I fed her but that caused too much of an oversupply so I really only pump about once a day. Having a 30 ounce oversupply a day was no fun

@Jemima thanks so much, that’s so useful xxx

I personally waited until I had a good supply and rhythm with his feeding. When I introduced the pump it was at night kr in the morning and I expressed at the same time to feeding on the opposite side. This worked for me. Don’t put to much pressure on producing load in comparison to what you see on the internet. 1-2 oz can be normal and it will always vary at different times of the day. Good luck 🤞🏽

I didn't really use my electric pump at all until I returned to work, I just used a haakaa while nursing to catch the extra letdown from my opposite breast and froze that.

Early morning is when your supply is higher. I don't recommend pumping after a feed as you won't get a lot out to begin with and then you'll be signaling your body that it needs to produce more milk which is a double edge sword as it might end up producing too much. The breastfeeding support people told me to pump as a substitute to a feed if that makes sense? At the beginning I would produce maybe 1 or 2 oz, now sometimes I get 6 or 8 oz so it takes time x
