Breastfeeding

Just out of interest, how long do your babies latch for? my 5 day old will go on for an hour at a time 😯 also when are you switching breasts? i was told to keep them on for at least 20 minutes on each breast but longer the better x

Anywhere between 15 and 45 mins. My eldest used to sit on it for an hour at a time. I’ve only ever done one breast per feed and alternate with my eldest and then out of habit I’ve just done it with this one but he never seems to want more and is content after one!

Mine can stay on sleepily sucking for up to an hour (same with my first born) but it's not active feeding. I let him do it if I'm just watching TV or something, but at night time I use breast compressions to bring some more milk down and encourage active feeding - where you can hear swallows and the sucks are stronger and more consistent. Then I tend to switch breasts after around 15-20min

I'd like help on this too. My baby falls asleep consistently on the boob and when I try to swap he is out for the count, until I put him down then it's as though he has never been fed

10-20 mins, then offer the other one and normally he will always take it so another 10-20 mins

Several hours at a time. It’s called cruster feeding x

I’ve never offered the second breast and never needed to. I alternate with each feed. Baby is 14 weeks and 97th percentile having been born on 50th percentile.

My boy would latch for a hour + at this age I would switch boobs when his jaw jittered that’s normally a way of them letting you know the milks starting to slow down

If baby is falling asleep at the breast, switch them over. It should wake them up and they will feed again. They do get more efficient as they get older, but it's also about comfort too
