They said mine was measuring small, i was induced at 37 weeks she was 7 lb 4 so they can be wrong 🙈🙈
Hello, aw it's so hard when you have to make the decision yourself, I was in a similar situation. I was always measuring big (can't remember exactly what centile bit it was the high 90s). I didn't have GD but I had high blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancy and excess amniotic fluid so I was induced for that reason at 39 weeks. Was in labour for over 30 hours and ended up having a c section. Because I was in hospital for so long (due to understaffing) my baby ended up being born the day before my due date and he was 8lb 5oz, so slightly on the bigger size but not massive! Being induced wasn't ideal, and I was so scared about having a c section but tbh the whole experience of the c section was really positive and I recovered really quickly. It's really hard to make the decision as you don't know how things are going to go. Like you, I was really against induction, but I just felt it was the right decision at the time. Sorry I don't have any more advice for you, hope all goes ok, good luck 🤍
Not a similar story but I was induced at 39 + 5 due to reduced movements and honestly was a great experience overall, had great care from the midwives and the induction itself was very successful and didn’t need the hormone drop (first time mum so I’m aware that’s a rarer case) but just incase you do end up having to go that route I wanted to let you know that I had a really positive experience with induction! Labour wasnt too long (especially the active labour) and my birth was uncomplicated 💕
I had the same thing, baby boy was measuring big and I had GD and had to induced because my water broke and I didn't go into labour 24 hrs later and so was induced 24hrs after my waters went and 24hrs after that had to have an emergency C-section
I had GD and my little boy was measuring small so had elective at 38 weeks. Born 7lb5 🙈 not as small as they said
I was induced at 38 weeks and it wasn’t a great experience. It ended in emergency c section and sepsis. In retrospect, I should have declined and went for c section directly instead. This was my first baby.
I would say take their measurements with a pinch of salt, I was diagnosed at 24 weeks so had very regular scans. Measured 9lb 2oz at 37 plus 4, induced 38 (arrived 38 plus 4, very long induction process) weighing 8lb 2oz. My induction was very slow and my labour was 22 hours.. and almost taken for emergency section but ended in assisted delivery with ventouse and episiotomy, as my LB just wasn’t ready. He’s now a thriving almost 9 month old! I am glad I didn’t opt for a section.
I had the exact situation as Lillian above an emergency c section and sepsis, I was induced, 13hr labour when I got to pushing it ended in an emergency c section as my son got stuck, in hind sight I also wish I would have just gone for an elective c section would have been far less stressful and traumatic and give you some sort of sense of control...atleast you know what you're going to get with an elective where as induction could go smoothly but could also end in c section so a bit of a guessing game x
Same thing happened to me but I was 35 weeks and my son was in the 97th percentile. My gestational diabetes was so bad I was on insulin 3 times a day. And due to having hyperemesis gravidarum, gestational diabetes, Short cervix, PUPPPS, and more things that I can’t remember I had to see a specialist. My water broke at 35 weeks and my son was born 8lbs. All in all trust your body. Don’t let them force you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.
Something I read yesterday that really stuck with me: "big babies are squishy". Just because a baby is on the bigger side does not mean that they will be harder to birth or that they will get stuck! On the other hand, induction before baby is ready is a surefire way to end up in a spiral of interventions - most of the comments above are a good evidence of that! I was in a similar situation (although not a big baby), where I was coerced into various means of induction and ended up with an emergency c-section. This time, I'm going to refuse any sort of induction and let things happen naturally x
Thank you so much for your advice and experience everyone, definitely helping in my decision making 🙏🏼
I’m not keen on induction either for the same reasons as you - I’ve asked in this situation that I would have an elective c section instead. Hope all goes ok!
@Keira 💗 wonder if there's a correlation between big babies and gym queens..
@Fionidi eee I wonder never thought about that but my friend who I do CrossFit with was pregnant the same time as me with my first had a bigger baby too!

@Keira 💗 and here I thought training thoughout pregnancy would do the opposite 😂 Babies being hench 💪🏼
@Fionidi, how was your baby measured? The usual tape measure measurement or was it a growth scan? If it’s the former could you request a growth scan before having to make that decision? I know they’re still not 100% but would at least be more reliable. Sorry I don’t have more or better advice at this stage…
My baby at 36+5 yesterday measured 9lb 9oz, over 99.9th percentile. I am having a section. My first baby was also born 9lb 8oz at 38+6 and all scans and predictions were correct. All mine are growth scan measurements every 2 weeks as I have a high risk pregnancy being over weight. I had an elective with my first, and this one is elective but been recommended also but Drs a lot more this time due to size, how awful my pregnancy has been, and previous section. Feel free to message me if you want any more info 🫣🤣
@Tolu it was a growth scan, my fundal height is actually bang on 50th percentile which is why I'm really thrown by it. I'm going to request a second scan next week and see what they say 🙏🏼
Exact same thing happened with my first, measured big, got induced and laboured for 2days then needed a section and forceps because the baby was stuck :( I’ve elected for section this time round for another big baby 💓
