Early induction stories

Hi everyone, I'm being induced tomorrow at 36+5 due to my baby being too small, I'm very nervous about the induction process and was hoping people could tell me about their experiences with it, and if they have had the same/ similar. Thank you in advance ☺️

Now I didn’t have an early induction I had an overdue baby induction. I wasn’t dilated at all at 41 weeks so I had to do the foley balloon which felt like an iud insertion. The contractions afterwords for the 12 hours were not terrible. VERY tolerable like period cramps. I was planning to go natural but the Pitocin made it very very difficult so I held off for about 10 hours with no epidural. After I got the epidural ( if you have lip injections, those hurt way more than the epidural) it was smooth sailing. I have lots of time to mental prep myself so other than the Pitocin I enjoyed giving birth !

Too small? Why not give your baby time? Third trimester ultrasounds are known to be off by 2+lbs oftentimes.

How small is your baby? You said too small how small if your baby x

@Alina the reasoning they gave me as I had is that they believed my daughter would gain faster outside and thrive. They didn’t want to risk there being possible issues with placenta etc She was born 5lbs3 at 38+2 weeks , small but healthy, thrived!

I had an early induction due to my boy being big. I loved it. I went in with a completely open mind to absolutely everything. I had the pessary and had my waters popped and then 16 hours later he was brought into the world. I wouldn’t have changed a thing! Good luck lovely 🥰

@Alina why not just be supportive and answer her question or not comment at all. Why is there so much hate against women who choose an induction🤦🏻‍♀️

My experience was I was 38+2 weeks I was induced using a pessary (a shoestring type thing inserted in you) it was like a burning feeling (not extreme) They leave in for 24 hours but mine was taken out after 9 hours due to contractions coming on. Only negative was that they came on too fast so had to inject me to slow down labour as daughter was stressed but it worked and was fine. I was dilated enough to have waters broken but labour ward was full so was transferred to a less busy hospital the following morning. Gave birth that evening, all positive!

I was induced for the same reason, now in hindsight I wished I’d refused it but it doesn’t mean yours won’t be positive. My son didn’t like the induction process and I had to have the pessary removed 2 hours after insertion and had to have a c section. I wished I’d have waited to see if he came on his own accord, he was under 5lbs x

There's no reason to jump on and question the decision to induce, 36+5 is basically term (37) and you don't know what information has led to scheduling the induction. For all you know it's a placenta issue. The induction is tomorrow FFS OP is looking for reassurance about the process not an interrogation about her baby's health! I'd much rather induce and give birth early than risk something much worse by waiting another few weeks. I had a C-section but my baby was also measuring small along with some other health concerns, if C-section hadn't been the best option for both of us I was absolutely prepared to induce early.

@Paige sorry. I didn't know asking questions about her providers options would be unsupportive to another mother. I'm all for informed consent. All choices.

@Becky good to hear!❤️✨️

My sister was induced due to a small baby but not that early. He was born 2 days late in the end and prem and tiny baby clothes swamped the little boy. He was just over 6lb if I remember rightly but tiny in size. Took 5 days of induction for labour to start. I was induced the day after my due date and it was a chill experience. Contraction started 6 hours after first pessery. Just a pre warning if they didn't tell you but you are 40% more likely to end in having a c section with an induction

I had an induction at 39+1 for a “very big” baby (estimated 10lbs 5oz) but I also had hydramnios (excess amniotic fluid) and that “very big” baby came out a lot smaller than they thought. She was 8lbs 5oz and was born a little over 4 hours after my waters were broken. The best thing you can do for yourself is have a good understanding of your induction options and be firm with what you want. Doctors tried to push me for epidural and c-section but I stood my ground, not to mention I had amazing midwives backing me. Do your research and instead of a “birth plan” have a written list of preference so that even if you can’t verbalise what you want (which might happen depending on your pain tolerance and stage of labour) , your support person(s) and your medical team can have an understanding of your preferences.

I was induced at 36 weeks due to preeclampsia and small baby. It was a negative experience which ended in a cat 2 emergency c section. I will never agree to be induced again
