Bottle refusal

Has anyone else’s bf baby began refusing a bottle? I only give a bottle occasionally but I’m anxious as I’m at a wedding on Saturday evening so my mom will be giving bottles while I’m away. He seems to chew the teat and only takes a little of the milk before refusing and becoming unsettled, he’s 2 months old for reference

Yess we had exactly this around the 7 week mark. I managed to give him one by putting him in the same position I would to breastfeed, and then dimming the lights, or going under a cover with him. It’s also work checking the temperature of the milk in case he’s fussy about that. We eventually got over that, so no idea what the issue was x

That’s interesting! Will definitely try holding him in that position, thanks x

Also, try not to stress! I know you’ve probably heard that a lot lol. When baby is hungry, he will definitely take the bottle. But given a choice, he’d rather have the real thing straight from the source, especially cos that’s what he’s used to!

I didn’t even think but it could even be because I haven’t changed the teat size!

Other options to give milk are using an open cup (shot glass size), syringe, teaspoon. So it may be worth to add these to your inventory for Saturday

I could have written this post myself! My 2 month old has 1 bottle at night, and last few nights has point blank refused, but then gone straight on the boob so clearly hungry! Tonight we changed bottle teat to the next size up and she’s currently chugging away 🙏🏻 hopefully that might work for you too x

My daughter is 8 months and still refuses the bottle

Have you tried tasting the milk yourself? I thought my daughter hated bottles until I realised I have high lipase and my milk tastes horrible after being stored😭

i had the same situation with my LG and it really stressed me out! she only had bottles occasionally but from birth, i tried everything test change, position, temp, everything! the HV told me to just leave her with someone else (my partner/ mum) and she will take it, which low and behold she did! it did take her a few hours until she realised i wasn’t there but she took it, and ever since she’s been taking bottles fine, she just knows that she prefers to feed from me, so if im around then why would she want anything else.. they are stubborn like that! i think he might take it for your mum x

@Lauryne no I haven’t, I’m not brave enough 😂

@Demi With mine just a sniff was enough🤣 dip your finger in if you’re too scared to sip it lol😆 it’s probably some other factor I don’t think high lipase is very common, but worth checking ☺️
