need advice

hello! i’m a mom to be very soon, had a scan today my baby girl is measuring 4,400 kg (9,7pounds), im 38 weeks right now, to be induced next thursday. my concern is i’m a very small person, i am afraid i won’t be able to birth her naturally, if i HAVE to have a c section i absolutely will but id love to give natural birth a chance. did anyone go through anything similar with their first baby? please help me ease my mind

Please bear in mind that growth scans can be massively out sometimes! Although, mine was fairly accurate I won't lie! My girl was born at 40+6 and weighed 9lb 9oz! She was by far my easiest birth though!

@Rebecca omg no way !! i think i just have too much anxiety going on, i want it to go well and im just very scared, but hearing those things from different moms eases my mind, glad everything went smoothly for you !!

Bear in mind that growth scans can be highly inaccurate ! Regardless if your baby is that weight doesn’t mean to say you won’t be able to naturally give birth x

These things aren’t accurate sometimes they can be a couple pounds off either way. I was measuring two weeks behind & my daughter was measuring small at around 5 pounds a week before my water broke. She came out at 7 pounds &7.4 oz. I had an all natural birth! My pregnancy was very high risk. She was my first, she is a very happy & healthy baby! & she is now measuring bigger than boys her age lol! I had very high anxiety closer to my due date abt every little thing. i think it’s normal lol. I overthought a lot during my pregnancy. I hope all goes well!

My little boy was predicted big, at 8lb at his 36 week scan, he was born via induction at 38 weeks weighing 10lb2oz, little girl was the same predicted 7lb5oz ended up being 9lb12oz at birth, also induction! Your body grows what it can handle don’t worry, even if you have to have an episiotomy it’s not the end of the world! I do recommend epidural tho if they’ve predicted big! Just incase x

The growth scans can be massively out sometimes so I wouldn’t worry too much! If they think your body wont be able to do it naturally they will probably give you a c section. My little girl was measuring small they said she was only measuring at 3lbs. When I had an emergency c section she was 4lbs 6oz at 37 weeks x

@Sophie thank you ! xx

@Hokulani happy to hear everything is all good , thank you !!

@Beth thank you, definitely needed to hear that 🫶🏽

These definitely aren’t accurate! I planned to be induced with my 2nd who was also measuring around that weight, my 1st also had his shoulder stuck during natural birth. I ended up having a c section at 38+6 weeks & he was born 7lb 9oz so only 3oz bigger than his brother who was natural x

My first was born and measuring on 99th percentile through scans, born 9lb 8oz. I had a planned section, and wouldn’t have got her out due to her head and shoulders, & needing forcepts in my section. This current pregnancy I’m 37 weeks today, on Wednesday at 36+5 baby measured 9lb 9oz. I’m having another section, she’s over the 99.9th percentile and already the size of a 43 week old inside 🤣 They were so accurate with my first, and every single scan again this time (all different sonographers) have been measuring super big, and my stomach is huge and no weight on else where so I’m rather trusting tbh with my history. I also have had growth scans every 2 weeks since 28 weeks. If you wonna message me you’re welcome, but don’t over stress! Have the measurements all along been big and been from scans or bump measurements? Cause bump measurements are not accurate one bit

@Jess all the scans before they were saying she will be a slightly bigger baby, todays scan just really scared me as even the midwife was shocked when she seen that my baby girl is 9lbs 7oz, already, she rang my pregnancy doctor and he said if i want i can be induced next thursday. all the measurements have been through scans,

growth scans are not accurate at all! my little boy was measuring 7lb 9oz at 40 weeks and was born a week later weighing 9lb 2oz. on another note, i’m also pretty small (size 8 pre pregnancy) and i birthed a baby over 9lbs and 57.5cm long! you’ve got this🤍

@Marta is she measuring along the same line though as she always has been? Cause at 38 weeks +6 my baby was born at 9lb 8oz, so it’s not too worrying that, no one was concerned about the size of my first other than me (hence a planned section)

my boy was 9lb 7oz born naturally, how his size wasn’t picked up i don’t know - even the midwife was surprised! but it was a real smooth & easy birth, i pushed for 16 minutes, only had a tiny first layer skin graze and he came out with his elbow up like a triangle with his hand on his cheek! i’d do it again 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Jess the last measurements i got was exactly a month ago when she i was 33 weeks and she was 5 lbs 5 oz, i feel like the care throughout my pregnancy that im getting isn’t very good, i never have the same doctor or midwife, i dont always find out if everything looks good, maybe thats where 99% of my anxiety comes from

Definitely sounds like she’s measuring not much behind my current pregnancy, at 32 she measured 5lb 15oz, then 7lb 7oz at 34 weeks. It deffo doesn’t help at all no when you don’t have consistent care!! Have you mentioned your concerns to a midwife or Dr you’ve seen? Don’t forget, if you’re trying naturally and there’s a problem they’ll take you for a section if the size is an issue, but don’t forget small babies get stuck and a lot of big babies on here have been born naturally too, so you could still go for your induction- try naturally like you want! And then the section is only a last resort

I am only 5ft 1 and my first baby was 8lb 8oz. I was induced but I had a section and my scans were accurate for his weight but it isn’t always the case x

I’m a very slim build pre pregnancy and during & I had a planned c section on the 11th April. I went into spontaneous labor that same day and when I got to the hospital they told me I was 5cm dilated so I asked if I can do natural and I were taken straight to the labor ward and the only thing that scared me was baby girls heart rate kept dropping so I had to be gowned up in case I had to be rushed for an emergency section. Luckily it went back to baseline and I managed to have her naturally she was born at 9:12pm that same day. You’ll be in the safest hands possible I was so nervous but you have got this. And this is my first baby too x

And also I agree with the above comments that growth scans are inaccurate. I were told my baby was weighing on the lower side at 5ibs 7oz but she was born at 6ibs 13oz x

My growth scans were accurate for both my babies. My first was 11.5lbs second weighted 12.13lbs. Here’s the thing, I ended w a c section the first time because there was no progress after 30 plus hours of labor and they had me scared of shoulder distocia. I wish I would have gave my body more time to do what it could do. I needed a c section w the second cause she was transverse.

Growth scans are just wild. My second was measuring absolutely huge for weeks estimating to be genuinely like 10lbs at birth, then suddenly she dropped to TINY. I was so concerned and stressed. Up until I was to give birth she was measuring small and on the 50th centile. She in fact was born at 9lbs 4. My point is scans are all over the place and you’ll only know after you’ve delivered. Always go with your instincts over what you want the perfect birth to be. Unfortunately not everything always goes the way you planned and that’s ok! Listen to your doctors and midwives and your body. Good luck! X

@Katelyn💖 thank you so much for! xx

@Olivia thanks a lot ! 🫶🏽

Growth scans are wild. I will say my first was 9lbs 10oz at 37 weeks I was induced for preeclampsia. He came out with no issues, no tearing, no dystocia, no problems. This one my belly is measuring 42 weeks at 37 and they’re guessing he’s pushing 10lbs now at 38 I’m not really worried. You got this mama! 🫶🏻
