Super confused about how to keep my toddler safe in bed overnight, please help!

My 22 month old has started climbing out of the crib so we’re moving him to a toddler/floor bed tonight, we’ve put up a stair gait too and baby proofed everywhere he can access upstairs. My worry is, what will stop him from now climbing over the stair gate when he can climb out of the crib? Do I need to shut his bedroom door so he can’t come out of the room? This seems like a hazard to me. But if I don’t close the door, I’m scared he will climb over the gate and fall down the stairs. Please help!!

Bedroom doors are advised to be closed for safety reasons in case of fire I think anyway so yeah I’d just close it over. Have you got a baby monitor? We also have a gate on our boys bedroom door so there’s two barriers and they’re 4 now and never tried to climb over them xx

we always closed the bedroom door for my little one, even when he was in his cot, it was just a thing him sleeping with his door closed etc. gates are trickier to climb over than cots and i’m sure it’ll be absolutely fine, if he wakes in the night he’s likely to try and find your room rather than go downstairs, so if it’s dark etc a gate will be there to protect him in case he stumbles but i’m sure he wouldn’t try to climb over the stair one during the night and any other time (like during naps etc) you’d likely hear him pottering about so i’m sure it’ll be fine mama! xxx

The bedroom door should be closed but not locked in terms of fire safety. If you have a monitor in his room you’d definitely be able to hear him get out of bed. He may not attempt to climb the gate even if he’s climbed out of the crib.

I'd make sure his room was safe and close his door so that he can't get out in the night and go exploring because mine has done that and the fridge was raided yogurt everywhere yeah make sure he's stuck in their til morning avoid the mess

Close the door. That’s the only guarantee. He will cry if he needs you
