Early intervention for speech

Has anyone had their LO evaluated. I was advised to get it done and now I’m nervous. His 18 month appointment was pushed back to 19 months because the dr was sick

I personally think it's best to get it done as soon as possible. My lo 19 months old has an evaluation coming up, and my 2.5yr is currently in speech therapy

@Stephanie I called and have intake on Monday

My LO only had 10 words at 18 months so I asked for a referral to speech. She didn’t quite qualify but they still took her. She’s now at 35 words a month later

We just had our evaluation! Everyone was super nice, they asked a lot of questions but were not judgy or anything! My kiddo starts therapy in about two weeks :)

Agree that they are usually really nice and helpful. Not judgy at all. They understand some kids have a bit of a delay and are there to help. I'm glad you got that scheduled, @Laura

Yeah he doesn’t say 7 words consistently. So they recommend we call now rather than wait! Hopefully we will see an improvement

I self-referred to my state’s early intervention program at 14 1/2 months (he had 5 true words/signs with meaning). The evaluation was scheduled at 15 months and we started services at 16 months. We have infant stimulation program, OT, and speech. It’s definitely better to assess early and not let the gap widen even more. At the very least, you’ll know where he is at. At the best, you’ll have the services to get him where he needs to be.
