Normal naps?

My 5 week old son seems to nap all day- we’re in a constant cycle throughout the day of wake-feed-change-sleep with ‘content’ wake windows that seem to be no more than 5-10 minutes. I haven’t been able to do any developmental play with him (e.g. tummy time, reading stories) and I’m worried he’s falling behind… but don’t want to wake him either! He also refuses to sleep anywhere except on my chest, so I’m currently completely trapped to my sofa for the entire day! Is this normal, and if so, when does he start staying awake for longer without getting upset?!

Following because same x

It’s very normal for them to sleep loads when they’re so little and felt exactly the same (my boy is 5 months now) don’t worry about the play/development time that will come. If he only sleeps on your chest he’s getting lots of time off his back. It’s easy to worry and I felt the same but honestly they’re so young at this age they need sleep milk and a clean nappy and love from you and that’s enough! Xx

Mine is 8 weeks and she hasn’t long been waking longer in the day, babies develop at their own pace and she went from napping a lot to now looking around and smiling. I’m trying to enjoy the cuddles because it won’t last forever and they won’t be this small for very long. Your baby feels safe with his mum and you both sound like your doing an amazing job

Sounds very familiar! With mine it just started couple of days ago when he started to stay awake in a content state. He is 6,5 weeks now. It doesn’t last long, he can tolerate 15-20 minutes maximum. I recommend black and white pictures if you are not using them already, mine can stare at them for 10 minutes happily. I usually give him a massage during that time or make myself a cup of tea :) And after a looong feed he can play with my husband for 30-40 minutes or sometimes longer but he needs to be carried.

I had this last week. I read that around weeks 4/5 they have some huge growth/developmental spurts to they might be more sleepy, hungry or fussy.
