Kindergarten prep?

Hello! I’m not homeschooling but I do want my son to have the best possible chance when he goes to kindergarten in the fall. I wanted to prep him all through summer so we have something to do everyday and had some questions! Is there an app or website you get the practice and learning sheets from? I have no clue what he has to learn and want to make it easy for myself but getting a packet/book that would benefit him. I looked on Amazon, but they are kind of basic and one step pages. I’d like something a but challenging and want him to learn to follow more than one step directions. Also, is there a certain way you go about doing school learning at home? Whenever I try with my son, he never wants to. I’m not sure if it’s my attitude when initiating or he just doesn’t want to listen in general. He also doesn’t listen when I tell him to help me clean and he gets distracted so easily. Not sure if that’s normal for a 5 year old. 🤣 Please let me know your go to apps/websites and special things I can do to get him excited and want to listen and learn. TYIA!!!

It's pretty normal. I used to be a preschool teacher. I started my little girl early and any time she wanted to help I let her so she's my little helper now that she's 3. We also do homeschool busy books that actually keep her a bit more focused we started just working on one page a day and now we work through several pages. And it's not everyday either.

Boys learn so differently to girls that a “school learning at home” approach is probably not the best way to go about it - especially if he’s like my two rambunctious boys, lol. This article does a great job of summarizing the differences between boy and girl learning! https://blog.traillifeusa.com/what-a-boy-needs?hs_amp=true

Kindergarten prep is more about life skills than specific knowledge. Playing Simon says, practicing putting on a coat and shoes, washing hands with soap, opening food from a lunchbox... You can have days where you play "school" where you do storytime on a rug, look at a calendar and sing days of the week or months of the year, have recess and then art (make sure to have him clean up his own paints, paper, glue, scissors, etc). He will have a great time and be ready for the fall.
