Cloth nappy recs and tips

After many months of putting it off I have introduced cloth nappies to our routine. So far we have done two per day only because we have six nappies (bought second hand from Vinted). I am now looking to get more, we have the bambino mio and I don’t see how these are meant to fit until potty training since they are already fitting well without being adjusted on my baby (he’s chunky) - unless I’m using them incorrectly. My plan is to use cloth nappies from when he wakes from his first nap usually around 10am to bedtime at 8pm. Any recommendations for how many nappies we’ll need and which ones work best? So far I really like the bambino miosolo from an all in one perspective. Thank you

Full time cloth mummy here and this bubs is my 2nd. Some brands do run bigger/ smaller but what you'll find is little ones legs should slim down as they get more active with crawling and walking - sometimes you might even go back down a rise popper as they grow. What fits one baby well won't fit another, I've found what worked great for my daughter hasn't necessarily for my son. For pocket nappies I do like Little Lamb, I also got some cheap pockets from amazon from Littles and bloom which have been working well. Inserts I like a mixture of bamboo and hemp. I don't tend to bother with microfiber as they're prone to compression leaks but it absorbs quickly so has it's place if little one does sudden big wees. Bambino mio are usually microfiber as an FYI so if you do run into issues down the line something to keep in mind :) For us nappies usually last 2-4 hours, just depends how frequently they wee/poo. First half of the day is closer to the 2 hour mark. X

We full time cloth our twins (and did our 4yo) I also run a nappy library. There are so many really good options that fit larger than the bambino mios and also are more absorbent. Your best bet would to be hiring some from a nappy library to see what’s good for you and what fits LO better

@Ceri-Ann I was so excited when I had my son that I got some nappies from a nappy library and returned them unused but I’ll give it a go again

@Sîan thanks so much this is really helpful… I hadn’t really paid much attention to the fibres used but will look into that.

full time cloth mummy here too, with my second as well! we use bambino mio (but the new revolutionary nappies), and they're good but definitely not really big enough now my eldest is 2.5. she's potty trained but still in nappies for night time and we love the little lamb ones, they have different sizes!

@Nthabiseng definitly give it another go now you’ve settled into life. Bells bumz are our go to and birth to potty day time nappies lasted until my daughter was 3 (in 4-5 clothes)

Full time cloth Mama here too, first was in cloth from a few months & wee man has been in them since birth. We have a mix & personally the Mio's are my least favourite. The newer revolutionary ones are better than the solo's imo, but I personally prefer double gusset & little lamb or tots bots fitted Terry's with a wrap, Terry squares or prefolds with a wrap are my go to & tend to be quite bomb proof. This is what we use for any traveling as we do a fair amount of driving over 2hrs & flights & never have any leaks with double gusset wraps. For nighttime we use close pop ins or same wrap & fitted combo. I bought some tickle tots to try this time round & oh. My. Days, they are divine, ridiculously soft & super absorbent!!

Be careful buying 2nd hand (we buy & sell 2nd hand as well as new, currently have loadsss for sale too if interested) as sometimes if there has been a build up of ammonia in them it can lead to a sore bottom for your wee one, so I'd advise a strip wash for these instances (throw your nappies on the line & leave them for a week or two in the rain & sun, then bring them in and wash them). Don't use any fabric softener on them & be aware that most nappies get more absorbent after a few washes.

I will also add that I am using nappies on our wee man that I used on our 10yr old, which is great for my pocket, great for the environment & also super cute to see him in them after seeing her in them if that makes sense! 🖤

I've just had a look online & Tickle tots currently have a massive sale on their own website, I absolutely love the all in two/hybrid as you can reuse the shell 2-3 times so no need for a bag full of nappies, just some of the inserts & job done. The all in ones are also amazing too, definitely the softest, best fitting & most absorbent nappies from the off that I've used! (I've just ordered a fair amount online & now plan to sell all the Mio's haha)!

@Missy-Matrix thank you so much! This is so helpful! I had never heard of tickle tots so I had a look and got a starter kit just to try them out.
