I think it’s quite unusual to be bumped unless there’s lots of emergencies. As yours is for a health reason and especially being diabetes I can’t imagine they’d bump you. Usually women with diabetes end up being first on the list due to the fasting and blood sugars. So I imagine yours would be pretty certain to be happening on your date.
As i was on insulin I was first on the list. Hope that helps x
There were a lot of emergencies on my day but it just delayed timings. I went in at midday and had baby at 5:30pm
Booked for elective - pm slot. No emergencies that shift so i got my scheduled date and time.
As far as I understand there's a separate theatre for emergencies so you should be ok. I went in at 6am on my date and he was out 3 hours later. Good luck!
I was booked for 39 weeks but was bumped 6 days however I didn’t have any medical issues other than previous c section so I wasn’t seen as a priority. With having diabetes you’d be less likely to be bumped. There is a seperate theatre etc for emergencies however sometimes it can’t be helped if there’s more than one. In my case it was a case of overbooking themselves plus emergencies so I had no chance really 😫
I had an appointment with an anaesthesiologist a couple of weeks ago and he said that it’s highly unlikely to not have your baby the day you go into have baby. Like someone else mentioned, they usually have a separate theatre cleared for any emergencies that happen and a different theatre for electives. The timing of electives is determined by risk factors of each woman, baby and scenario. The lower risk you are, usually the longer you have to wait which is a pain to wait when you’ve not eaten but it’s good that you’re lower risk. More high risk pregnancies etc will be higher up the list to go down for their section. Different hospitals might have different policies but that’s the general gist of it. I was booked for an elective a week ago which was my 37th week because I was bleeding through the pregnancy but I wanted a week bump to get prepared and enjoy another week of my bump. After a lot of rejections from the doctors, I finally got my wishes granted. I started bleeding 4 days to the extra date. I went in as an emergency but baby and I are well and healing together.
