I need to stop but I’m struggling so bad- and I feel so guilty- any tips or advice how to stop an 18month old breastfeeding ? X

If you don’t me asking, why do you need to stop? 🤎

Emma Pickett has some excellent resources around weaning. Her podcast makes milk has an episode called weaning a booby monster you may find helpful. There are also lots of books you can read such a booby moon which help introduce the idea of weaning to LOs x

@Sabrina of course not! I’m back at work and mentally it’s just taking a toll on me as she’s become super clingy and it’s getting hard as she’s so big and moves so much during a feed 😂🫣xx

@Yasmin thank you! I’ll definitely have a look! Xx

We stopped slowly at Christmas and it was okay for both of us, although my daughter has always been happy to take a bottle so I swapped bedtime breast milk for a bedtime bottle of oat milk. If we'd not replaced it then it would have been harder for us but she was much younger than your little one! Anyway I wanted to comment not to share advice because I don't really have any but just to say please don't feel guilty! You've done an amazing thing and given your baby an amazing gift. It's a two way street and if it's no longer working for both parties then it's time to stop. You've done so well to get to 18 months and you should feel so so proud 💕

We went on holiday for a week during Easter and took advantage of the change of routine to start weaning our LO. When she asked we offered her a drink and snack along with a cuddle. First week back after the holiday was tricky as she asked more frequently but now she doesn’t really ask at nearly four weeks later.

Oh I can relate my boy is huge and I’m a tiny 5foot so breastfeeding is like weight lifting. Because of that I’ll probably stop sooner than I would have liked 🥲. We’re down to one feed when he wakes up and one to go to sleep. In terms of weaning the only thing I’ve done is everything super gradually so dropped one feed every few months or decreased feeds by 1 minute or so every couple of days. Good luck 🤎
