Does your midwife work at a birthing center? If so they hold them to different standards than a private midwife and they usually end up more clinical and try to be just like a hospital OB because if something goes wrong with a midwife it kind of turns into a witch hunt. I have a private midwife and she wouldn’t think about induction until 42 weeks. You and I have the same due date and I’m going with what baby wants. You don’t have to fall to their pressures. Tell them you are going to do “watchful waiting” and that they can document it in your chart that you are declining their “advice”.
I was told by my midwife to ask my consultant about an induction for me as I’m suffering really bad this last trimester. My consultant told me they would normally induce at 41+4/5 but they will induce me at 41
I feel the same! Im 34 weeks and was at a scan last week and was sent to the ward bacuse she was a little big and bang we will book you in for a scan at 36 weeks and talk about induction at 37?! I was like no thanks ill speak to my own midwife which i did yesterday and she said to me i will see you at 36 weeks and we will talk about what YOU want! I am so lucky my midwife firmly believes there are far too many unnecessary Inductions ! X
Far too many unnecessary inductions which ultimately lead to having an assisted birth or even section. I also feel they push a lot of pain meds on you aswell. Like I’m quite happy with my gas and air i like to feel confident and in control of my body and each person is an individual but when I said about no pain relief in form of medication she was like oh really wow are you sure lol.
My ob clinic only offers induction to high-risk patients, which I think is great. However my friend was 36 weeks and baby girl had already been measuring almost 10lbs and they wouldn't induce her. She ended up at 41+4 weeks before they induced, and she had to push out a 12.9lb baby naturally 😬 I think a lot of clinics induce early to prevent complications and overgrowth, also it can help keep mom and baby healthy & safe.
Also the same, due to a past loss and anxieties all my consultants and midwives are trying to push me into a induction at 38/39 weeks. Really not wanting to go for that option but they’re even telling me it’s more dangerous for me to go full term??? Even tho I’ve had a completely healthy pregnancy??
@Jodie I was told infertility and miscarriage are reasons to induce early since they typically make you high risk. I'm not a doctor, so I don't know the amount of increased risk involved, but I think its good for them to be cautious, not necessarily induce early for it, though.
All 4 of my children where natural but my 5th they are inducing me today at 4pm. I’m just ready to have healthy baby in my arms at this point
@Brittany hmm seems a bit crazy when there’s been absolutely no issues this pregnancy, touch wood. I have my heart set on the birthing centre and know if I get started off I can’t go there xx
@Jodie it may just be a precaution. But it doesn't hurt to tell them how you feel and that you'd like to attempt to wait out the full term unless something arises and you have to be induced.
@Jade it doesn't relate to me. I'm high risk for Cholestasis, Hypertension & A clotting disorder so my baby will be induced early. Cholestasis can increase the risk of stillbirth if it gets too bad. I don't think the risk is worth the wait, so I'm perfectly fine with them inducing between 35&36 weeks because I'd rather have a healthy baby than risk any further complications or stillbirth. But my ob office has been very informative & upfront about things and the risks, etc.
I'm the same due date as you! But my OB asked me how long past my due date I would like to wait before induction, not telling me I have to have one sooner! It seems there's a slightly increased risk of stillborn if you go 41+ weeks so I think that's why. They shouldn't be pushing anything on you!
I was induced my first time because my water broke. My second time labor started naturally, my third time my labor started naturally. This time I’m going to ask to be induced because my labors are so fast, I’m talking 2-3 hours and I am paranoid I won’t make it to the hospital, have time for an epidural or my husband will miss the birth.
