My hcg didn’t double after a whole week, but still increased - what does this mean?

In a week my hcg went from 900 (4.5 weeks) to 1600 (5.5 weeks). It hasn’t doubled but also hasn’t decreased so I’m not wondering if it’s for sure that the pregnancy isn’t viable at this point. I haven’t gotten a blood test since Wednesday so have no idea where my numbers are now but I haven’t started bleeding and have no other symptoms like cramping to indicate I’m about to lose the pregnancy. I know decreases in hcg definitely mean an miscarriage, but not sure about incrementally slow increases. My last miscarriage I was already bleeding by the time my levels were 1600 and they increased and decreased in the week following as I continued to bleed. Anyone have this experience at this point in their pregnant and able to share their experience? I’m preparing myself for my 6 week scan on Tuesday.

Same thing happening to me right now. Will keep you posted. Good luck ❤️

Going through this also 😪💔

I’ve heard that if they increase but slowly it could be ectopic. Have you gotten an ultrasound

@Gabrielle getting my scan on Tuesday but I’m also thinking the same thing :/ since my other miscarriage’s hcg actually went down (even though it went back up as well).

@Meg @Shannon when do y’all have your scans?

Now this morning just had bloods taken

I'm just back home and I got good and positive news (wasn't expecting good news to be honest I was preparing for the worst news because i have spotted twice now) but from last Thursday on the scan they seen a tiny sac and couldn't confirm it was a sac, so they classed it as a pregnancy of unknown location, did bloods every 48hours they were increasing just not doubling, today they seen a gestational sac and a yolk sac and everything is looking good im just earlier than i think!! 😭🙏❤️ Best of luck to you girls x

@Shannon that’s so great to hear! If you don’t mind me asking what did you think you were and what are you actually?

So I should actually be 6w3d based of my LMP but I'm actually 5weeks something I'm not what yet just was told 5 weeks, I ovulated late so I dont know if that made a difference. Is your scan tomoro?

Yea my scan is tomorrow. I’ve been religiously tracking my cycles so I got my first positive and blood test at 10 dpo so unfortunately I think the chances of me just being a little earlier than I thought is slim 😕. Things were doubling as they should from 3-5 weeks but stopped. Oh well, will just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings 😣

Aw hun I hope everything goes well for you tomoro 🙏❤️ its such a scary time not knowing what happening nothing compares to it, how many weeks should u be tomoro?

I’ll be 6w1d

@Shannon that’s such wonderful news!! Hoping for some goods news of my own this week. Will report back 💕 keeping the faith for all of you. Xx

@Meg best of luck hun, keep us posted ❤️✨️🤞 xx

@Shannon thank you!! Will report back. 💕

How did everything go today? 🤞✨️

@Shannon so there’s a fetal pole which is measuring 5w5d (I should be 6w1d) and a heartbeat around 90. My doctors more worried about birth defects at this point just because of my numbers so I’m going back in next week to do a follow up scan. At that point we’ll either see no heartbeat, lack of growth or miraculously if things stay on schedule. So stressful and confusing.

Still waiting for my scan but my HCG has rapidly picked up. 2/13 - 171 2/15 - 221 2/17 - 350 2/20 - 2100 I have my scan booked for Friday. Ill be 5.5 weeks. Has anyone else experiences slow at first followed by a rapid increase?

@Meg that’s great! Though those numbers actually might have been fine to begin with! Hcg is supposed to double every 48-72 hours. If you had tested every 3 days instead of 2 at the beginning you probably would have seen double!

Hi guys! Update: I had my first scan today. 5 weeks, 6 days. They found two gestational sacs. One with a fetal pole, yolk sac and heart beat and one without anything. Looks like it was twins but one didn’t make it. Ultrasound tech was lovely, showed me the heart beat and told me I was measuring perfectly at 5 weeks and 6 days. But then the same nurse who told me I was having a non viable ectopic after two HCGs not doubling (followed by doubling) came in and told me it was nonviable. Her exact words were ´as i told you on the phone this is non viable´. She then said sorry and walked out. Based on what?! I’m measuring perfectly and there’s a heart beat. This is the same nurse who recommended I end the pregnancy before I’d had an ultrasound. I called my friend who’s and ob and they said all looks perfect. But I don’t know what to think and feel so traumatized by this whole experience.

@Meg I have never heard of any medical professional advising to end a pregnancy without an ultrasound unless there were active symptoms of miscarriage like bleeding, which you didn’t have, right?! Plus I’m pretty sure you need a scan to confirm an ectopic…That’s pretty shocking - so sorry you had to deal with that If the nurse was also basing the non doubling hcg levels on the numbers you posted here…your numbers didn’t look alarming to me. If your hcg hadn’t come close to doubling after 3 days, then I’d be concerned…but that’s not the case with your numbers!

Also unfortunate update on my end, I’ve been bleeding since Friday so this pregnancy unfortunately ending in miscarriage. My official scan to confirm is on Wednesday.

@Meg so is the pregnancy ectopic or no?

Im so so sorry to hear that and will be keeping good thoughts 💕. @Gabrielle nope! Pregnancy is in my uterus.

Gotcha then I wouldn’t listen to that. Just keep going and see what happens. Do you have another doctors appointment schedule or ultrasound in a couple weeks. For me I havnt had my first appointment yet unfortunately I’ll be 9.5 weeks when I do but for me I would never end a pregnancy unless it was ectopic or something else was seriously wrong. So for you If ultrasound tech said it looked good and it’s in the uterus even though you lost a twin I wouldn’t worry until there’s something to worry about

Aw I’m sorry OP! Hopefully the bleeding is normal but please keep us updated

@Gabrielle @Meg thanks ladies. Unfortunately I’ve been down this path so I know what to look for and expect. Bleeding is too heavy for it to be recoverable since I’m passing small clots. Thankfully since I had a scan already, we ruled out ectopic so I didn’t have to go into the ER and I’ve just been resting at home. I’m so glad there are some success stories out there though! Shows that there is hope! Now I’ve gotta just manifest that the 3rd times the charm.
