Epidural? Was anyone able to birth kneeling or in UFO positions?

Hi Ladies, was wondering if anyone was able to move slightly during their epidural? I mean maintain UFO (upfront, forward and open). I think I'll have an epidural if poss but I want to be upright to avoid tears. X x

Nope. I did ask about a 'walking' epidural but they didn't do it at my hospital.

I am afraid not. I could hardly shift/ move myself whilst lying down.

I tried it but couldn't push at all on that position 😉

I could move with an epidural and stood up briefly but my baby didn't tolerate me being mobile as her heart rate would drop as soon as I moved out of left side lying pretty much... We ended up with an emergency C-section. Definitely worth asking if the type of epidural done at your hospital is one you can remain mobile with but it's not always a given as the injection can spread affecting the nerves more than intended. Also, you never know how you are truly going to be during labour. You might find you're fine with just gas and air and don't need the epidural, although good to remain open to various options... And yea sometimes the baby scuppers any plans you have anyway 🙄😄

Yep! I had an epidural with both mine. I squatted initially with ny first but he got stuck so had to intervention. With my second I gave birth on a sort of stool thing, sitting up etc... had to be supported by my husband but went fine! Totally doable as long as you have a mobile epi

I didn't have time to get the epidural so I gave birth on all fours... My old scars from my son just reopened but that's about it

Have you thought about not getting an epidural? Is it just for pain management?

I pushed baby out on my back, but I did actually get up and out of the bed to wee at some point. The midwife didn't want me to, but I just cannot do it in the bed pan 🙄 So I suppose you could probably kneel on the bed if you wanted 😊
