Following as also interested. I’ve been offered one at my next appointment if I want it. I’ll be 39+5

I had 3 with first. None worked. Hopefully it works for you xx

Had it the first time at 39+5. Went into labour on my due date. Not very comfortable but not to the point of pain.

I had one with my second pregnancy at 38 weeks because I was so uncomfortable. I had my son later that evening.

Yeah was literally just thinking about this as you posted 😂

I had one with my first at 39+6, had a bloody show and contractions started on my due date, didn’t give birth til 40+3 tho 🥲 with my second I had one at 39+3, contractions started the next day and gave birth on my due date 😌 I unfortunately just labour long I think 😂 but they did seem to help me. I’ll be taking one as soon as I’m offered this time too

I have declined (40w today). I would highly recommend doing some reading on it. Sweeps have become almost a given thing to happen- but they are a form of intervention and can lead to an increase in likelihood for other interventions, instrumental births and c-sections. Of course- you may be incredibly uncomfortable by the time you are offered one (often at least 40weeks for most trusts) and it might be a case of 'get this baby out at all costs' for you... but at least you can make an informed choice 🙂

I had one with my second pregnancy and went into labor the next day. So I am not sure if it worked or if it was just time for baby to come out. I found it super uncomfortable and painful and don’t think I would do it again. But we will see what I think in a few weeks if baby hasn’t come out. I am 37 weeks right now.

I had it when I was overdue with my first and it was successful so definitely getting it again when I’m 39 weeks due to previous c section x

I’m having one on Friday, and being induced on Monday. They are giving me a sweep as they said it can help my body prepare for induction on Monday and make it more successful

I had it with my first at 40 weeks and went into labour and delivered naturally 2 days later. Having one tomorrow with my son as he is measuring in the 98th percentile and not allowed to go past 38+4 before being medically induced. I will then have another Tuesday next week if this first one doesn’t work before having the medical induction. I had zero complications the first time around. Obviously with everything there are risks - even going naturally into labour with no intervention.

@Alexus Good luck! Let us know how it goes.xx

Same as @Renaie I had 3 with my first and they didn't work and then got an infection but everyone's different and I know just one has worked for some women ☺️

I will decline unless I get really close to 42w to avoid an induction. Here are the reasons while I'll be declining: 1. They only work about 1/8th of the time. 2. Risk of artificial rupture of membrane which would mean you have to be admitted and go on antibiotic drip and induction... Any hope of a natural birth goes out the window. 3. Likely to cause cramping or false labour without starting actual labour. This makes you less relaxed on the last few days/weeks of pregnancy when you are already uncomfortable af. 4. The risks are more certain than benefits. 5. Uncomfortable af or maybe even painful

@Alexus you can ask for a vaginal exam without a membrane sweep and they can tell you if you're dilated.

I'm 39+1 now, and had a sweep last night because she's finally head down and has been wriggling between different positions for weeks! I was sore and had a few strong contractions, a bloody show, then nothing since 🤷‍♀️ I'll keep the post updated :')

My first born was 10 days late so I agreed to a sweep which did eventually work but as I was 41+5 she was probably going to come at some point soon anyway. I definitely wouldn't recommend having one before your due date as they aren't a miracle cure to start labour and can cause issues if done too soon

I had 4 with my first starting at 38 wk then induction at 39 wk and having my first sweep at 39 wk with this pregnancy to hopefully avoid induction x
