Oxycodone while breastfeeding?

I had my C-section and it’s been a few weeks now, but my back is in excruciating pain still (i think from the epidural?) ..My doctor prescribe me oxycodone, i’ve been avoiding taking it, but i’m suffering & I think I might need to tonight …I’m wondering if this is still safe to take while breast feeding? It’s 5mg really small, but ik everything passes thru milk so i’m curious to know if it’ll do anything to baby ?

Would not recommend breastfeeding if you plan on taking it. Even though it’s a small amount, it will still pass through the breast milk and puts your baby at risk of symptoms like drowsiness and shallow breathing. Take it to relieve the pain, but pump/dump and formula feed for the time being

Any opiate will carry potential risks for the baby. Could you maybe go back to your doctor and ask for something more suitable when breastfeeding?

Thanks guys for the info! So I had asked if it was safe, and the doctors were pretty adamant that it is safe, but honestly like you both said it’s a pretty hard narcotic and I really do think it could pass through the milk!! They did give me extra strength, over-the-counter Tylenol, but it just was not doing it for me, I’m wondering if there is anything else that’s a safe pain reliever that isn’t so harsh! I feel at a loss :/
