Castor Oil Success Stories?

Did anyone have any success with castor oil to induce labor? I do NOT want to be induced with pitocin again because it made my labor way too long and painful. Please keep your horror stories and “don’t do it” advice to yourself. Thank you guys ☺️

I did with my daughter. I took a tablespoon of castor oil one night the next day I lost my bloody show when to the doctor that day and I was still only 3cm I went home went to bed woke up at 11pm and was in labor. I was 7cm dilated when I got to the hospital. My baby did not poop in the womb nor did I have bad diarrhea or anything. I believe I was 38w along.

My mom said she took it with my brother and went into labor/ had him the same day no side affects

How would you go about taking it? And when?

^ yeah me too

I took it with my 3rd pregnancy and it worked with no issues. My daughter was born 6 hours after drinking it. And… it was far less traumatic then my hospital births with Pitocin!!!

My friend did it and it took 4 hours to start working at 38 weeks. This is the recipe her midwife gave her: 2 tablespoons castor oil, 3 scoops ice cream and 1 cup orange juice in a blender then drink it ON AN EMPTY STOMACH (or you WILL get sick) She had no issues. I will add that she was apparently pooping with every contraction at the hospital tho after getting the epidural and the nurse had to clean her up but other than that no real side effects 🤣

And just my opinion, the ladies saying NO, don’t do it, or they’ve heard bad things… if your cervix is already soft, and if, your babies head is engaged, and if, they are talking about synthetic drugs to induce you, I can assure you having experienced both, castor oil if used properly is far less harmful to you and the baby then the pharmaceutical drugs that hospitals use!

@Terra Cutchall I was thinking about doing it myself this makes me feel a lot better about it. One of my other friends tried to tell me a horror story and it’s been bugging me ever since when it’s just such a rare occurrence 🫣

@Kayla , I believe the horror stories are from women who prematurely drink way more then you need. Meaning, the baby isn’t positioned right yet, and the cervix is still very high, and then they drink 1/4 cup of castor oil🙄🤦🏼‍♀️. My midwife advised me after checking my cervix, and I drank a very small amount, 2tbsp mixed in 8 ounces of OJ. I did have diarrhea almost immediately for about 2 hours, but… then went into active labor and my daughter was born healthy literally 6 hours after consuming the castor oil.

@Terra Cutchall Pitocin is what I’m trying to avoid 😩 When I tell you I was in the hospital for 2 days with back to back contractions, it was HORRIBLE! I’ll try anything if it means I can skip the pitocin this time.

@Kayla , I completely get it! My first two were induced with Pitocin! It was hell! When I got pregnant with my 3rd I opted to use a natural holistic birthing center! Best decision I ever made. The castor oil was like heaven compared to Pitocin! I am currently 38 weeks 4 days and have an appointment on Tuesday. If my exam reveals she’s head down, cervix is soft and ready, I’ll be using castor oil again.

Castor oil only causes uterine irritation, which is why it induces contractions on some women, but they are not actually productive labor contractions!! It also causes a lot of diarrhea which leads to dehydration. I would NOT use castor oil, it’s not safe!

@Josie I just came back from the hospital and I beg to differ! 😄 Baby is great, I am great, contractions are getting painful but I’m slowly dilating (0 to a 1), NO diarrhea or dehydration. I was told to labor some more at home but come back when things get worse. I’m currently in early labor ☺️

@Kayla , yay!!!! That’s exciting! Good luck!!🙏

@Terra Cutchall Thank you so much! ❤️ Just trying things to help me dilate a little more now ☺️

@Kayla A warm/hot bath is what I did next! I hit 4cm got in a hot bath and dilated to 10 in an hour. I birthed in the tub. It was incredible. Praying for you and your little one.

@Terra Cutchall You are the third person to say that today, so I will definitely try that next! Thank you for your prayers as well, it means so much ❤️

@Kayla if you took Castor oil and all it did was get you to dilate from 0 to 1 then it proves my point that it doesn’t do much more than irritate your uterus. It doesn’t cause meaningful contractions that progress labor significantly and most women would go into labor on their own in time

@Josie , nobody is telling you to do it! In fact she specifically asked for no “don’t do it” advice! If you don’t want to do it, great, don’t! It works, it worked for me and I’d do it again in a heart beat!!☺️

@Josie I’m 5 minutes away from the hospital and went back to get checked because I lost my mucous plug. Got here about 10 minutes ago and I’m actually 3cm now and being kept! ☺️ So again, it DOES do something for some women. I see you’re a nurse practitioner, so that would explain why you believe castor oil doesn’t work lol. It’s worked for decades and I’d try it again next pregnancy.

What method did you end up using?? I’m hoping to try myself in 4 weeks. This gives me so much relief. Keep us updated lol I’m invested

@Kayla I took 3-4 teaspoons of castor oil like a shot and chased it with juice to get rid of the taste lol. I took a 30-45 minute walk afterwards and did squats (as much as my body could handle) then I started to have really painful contractions that same night and they never really stopped since.

@Kayla when did you do this? What week were you at is it safer to do at your 39th?

@Terra Cutchall what about prime rose oil? I’m thinking of trying that to

@Amberlynn my friend did it at 37 weeks and was fine. I think it just depends on how your baby is developing

@Amberlynn , I have not tried prom rose oil. I’d say the questions to ask are, is the babies head down and engaged? Is your cervix already thin/effaced, did your Dr say that your cervix was at least slightly opened?

@Terra Cutchall her head turned at my 30 week I went to day and my cervix is half softened and 1 cm dilated

@Amberlynn , personally I’d do some walking, and even squats. Once you hit 38 weeks, go for the castor oil. I’d be shocked if it wouldn’t work at that point.

@Terra Cutchall well after drinking just one cup of the pink stork I just lost some of my mucus plug 😳

@Amberlynn Don’t chew me out for this because I know it was a little early 😫… At the end of 35 weeks is when I did it. He’s measuring a few weeks ahead and he’s huge already so I thought it was okay. I’m currently 36 + 1
