The Grange University Hospital

Does anyone deliver in The Grange University Hospital? How was experience? I'm planning for natural birth and I'm a bit scared. I had my 2 first children in England/London, Labour rooms were very good, but staff was ignored all my worries of losinga lot of blood, so the second time I ended up in intensive care and doctors was thighting for my life. I'm so scared, and I don't want to go through this again... My midwife told me that The Grange is the best in the area, I don't have much trust as I moved to Wales a year ago and don't have many mum friends with giving birth experience.

I’m not giving birth in the grange and nor have I previously but I had a few compilations in my first 4 months of pregnancy and the grange were brilliant with me.

I had a planned c section and all I can say is that it was first class care. Everyone involved in the aftercare was amazing and their facilities are fab xx (Also from England and moved here four years ago)

Hi, I'm giving birth in Grange and also work there. The ladies are lovely ad I've been to Triage many times. Xxx

Absolutely amazing, lovely room very relaxing midwife’s were impeccable, I gave birth there 9 days ago xx

Following! This is where I am hoping to birth my boy x 💙

I had my little one on Thursday at the grange and was kept in until Sunday. The midwives were lovely. I had a water birth with no pain relief but had a tear and needed stitches. Everything was explained. Rooms are lush too

Ngl the grange treated me little utter shit with my two miscarriages. Then I conceived my son and had him at the grange worse mistake I ever done was give birth there! The staff are so rude. Spoke to me like shit and treated me like shit. I had placta left inside of me. They stopped my treatment for strep b whilst I was in labour causing me to have a massive 2 infections. Then cause I was in for another week after me my son was born as he had jaundice they was hell towards me and my husband. My next child will not be born there at all.

Best thing about my birth in the grange was getting out of there. Maternity negligence is an understatement, all my notes was ignored. Was put on the hormonal drip when I stated time and time again that I did NOT want this, resulting in my oxygen levels to drop to a dangerous level. Midwives not listening to a word I was saying. Myself and baby was in distress resulted in an emergency c section

Hey lovely, I'm from Bristol and moved to wales to live with my boyfriend, shortly after I fell pregnant and I gave birth at the grange. I loved it there. The midwife's were amazing, I even had to have an emergency c section, and the people who did it were amazing and made me feel at ease, they kept checking on me throughout after to make sure I was okay, I thought it was amazing there, hope you have a smooth birth my lovely, good luck. 💜

Also epidural failed 3 times. BUT not all births are like this

I gave birth in the Grange on the 1st of November! They were absolutely incredible with me 🥰🥰 they were so great through the labour and birth and previously when I had reduced fetal movements ❤️

I gave birth there 6 weeks ago... Had hoped for Ystrad but due to being medium risk I had to go to the Grange. I was induced there and had to stay in after birth for a further 24 hours or so. The care both me and my little girl, as well as my partner, received whilst we were there was wonderful. I would really recommend it, and try not to worry 🤍

I gave birth in 2020 there (so I hope standards changed) but they left me with my waters broke and contracting in the house for 19 hours as they wouldn't check me which caused me to get an infection as well as baby, I hemorrhaged which they didn't tell my partner about, just handed him the baby and rushed me to get a blood transfusion so he thought I died and ended up in hdu with sepsis and baby had jaundice with her infection. Got worse treatment for my baby since, so I've got PTSD and refuse to go back there. I've heard hit and miss since though. They always say it's best in the area as they closed all the other hospitals down to make it 'a super hospital' just they can't staff it so the standards slip

Had my baby there. Was induced but there weren't enough beds in labour to break my waters. Was a bit of a nightmare. Ended up in an emergency section. Will say that the majority of the staff were fab just a case of not enough beds as they've condensed so many maternity services to there. All emergencies come in and go ahead which doesn't help. Rooms were great, all the ones we were in were private with ensuite which was lovely. I think all the rooms throughout the hospital are. They were also pretty quick at answering the buzzers.

I gave birth in Prince charles 6 weeks ago and the midwives there was amazing! I know everyone’s experiences are different but they couldn’t have done enough for me and my baby! Xx

@Liv go to prince Charles. Best thing I ever did. They actually checked for my strep and prepared for hemorrhaging (thankfully didn't second time round) And did additional monitoring for heart conditions which the Grange brushed off in my daughter til she needed surgery for it... Had extra consultations due to my anxiety. (I didn't even see my midwife from 30 weeks with my daughter who also was my first baby, as they kept cancelling)

@Sophie I will be asking to go there for my next one. It’s a different health board so will have to be transferred over

When I had 2 miscarriages last year, they fobbed me off 3 times on 1st miscarriage. Tried telling me bleeding was normal, told me pointless waiting to be scanned out of hours as they couldnt promise they had someone qualified to do it,so I had to go find out through a private scan. Unfortunately they didn't give a dam, even tried sending me all the way from Newport to Ebbw Vale for my what was supposed to be 12 week scan. 1 resulted in me having a d&c I was heartbroken tears streaming down my face and they just kept asking me for my name, dob etc before surgery It was awful, I'm now currently 27 weeks pregnant with another boy luckily & thankfully, but I'm absolutely dreading going there to give birth!x

@Charlotte unfortunately, from my experience, all depends on the staff, sometimes they have professionals on duty and sometimes only idiots, no ideas how they got the job in hospital. Wish you easy delivery and healthy baby boy 🤗

My experience of the Grange was brilliant. The midwives and consultants I came across were all excellent and the birthing suites and post natal ward was lovely.

My experience in February was a bit mixed. Had to be induced and nothing happened until my partner had to leave at 8 when I started having contractions, I was offered painkillers but felt they didn't take me seriously cause it was my first. I pretty much had to push them to let my partner come up and they thought I was being dramatic but they finally let him up at midnight after telling him on the phone to not come to the hospital yet even though they were a 40 min drive away...luckily my birth partners chose to ignore them 😂 In 1hr 20 mins I went from 3cm to 9cm (still in induction ward), we rushed my Mam up and pretty much quickly packed everything up and ran to the labour ward and had to keep sticking my knees together to keep him in. He was born 12 mins after getting to labour ward 🙈 Post natal/NICU was amazing tho! Ended up staying for 4 days but they were all lovely and did everything to get my baby back in my room, the midwives wouldn't let me be discharged so I didn't have to leave my son.

Helped with burping and warmed all feeds up for us. I would just make sure your birth partner/s know exactly what you want so that they can advocate for you x

I’m hoping to give birth to my little girl in the grange my anxiety is over the roof xx

@Katelynn🖤 Honestly you'll be fine, they're lovely there and if you're not fine then it's the right place to be and they'll take care of you so much! Just make sure you and your birth partner/s know what you want in advance so you and they can advocate for you x

I haven’t got much of a birth plan if I need drugs give me them🤣it’s my first baby so I dunno what’s coming pmsl xxxx

@Katelynn🖤 they don't even check your birth plan, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Plus, nothing ever goes how we want it too😂. I was sent down to labour ward at 2cm as my waters broke in the middle of the canteen. Midwives told me that my LO was fully engaged, put me on the drip (I stated numerous times that I did NOT want it), epidural failed 3 times. Was put on remifentanol which shut my oxygen down to the point where I wasn't breathing. Had to rush for an emergency c section. Later found out that the midwife on duty who sent me to labour ward set me up to fail as baby was NOT engaged, hadn't even dropped into my pelvis fully. Recovery ward was a different story! All midwives there was absolutely amazing!!. But remember, not every horror story determines the type of birth you'll experience. Good luck!

Awh thank you hun I hope mine goes okay ❤️xxx
