Do you pump to induce labor?

My doctor recommended me to pump for 5 minutes per day to induce labor. I tried today with Haaka and in 2 minutes I saw the drop of colostrum! It's so exciting! What do you think, can it induce labor?

I started hand pumping and I haven’t felt a single contraction and it’s been 3 days😅

Omg I didn’t know about this. 😭 could you explain more x

They told me I can pump up to 30 mins per side a day. I haven’t had a single contraction in a week

@Nevada 😅 do you have colostrum? And if yes, do you store it somehow? I wonder if it can cause milk coming in too early... I wouldn't like that 😱

@Yulia yeah I only pump once a day about 5 minutes per boob and get about 12 ml of colostrum. I use syringes with caps I ordered off Amazon and write the date on each one!

@Nevada wow that's so cool!! I hope it will help with inducing labor 🙏 how many weeks are you? I'm 38

@Zaynab you can use breastpump, haaka, or just hand express, and in theory it can induce labor! But ask your doctor first if it's ok to do. Who knows! Everybody is so different!

@Yulia I’m 36 weeks but I’m being induced early so if it can happen naturally instead I’m all for it lol. I hope it helps get things going for you also!!🤍

@Veronica wow 30 minutes per side it's a lot! So interesting why doctors' recommendations are so different. Mine told me only about 5 minutes for both sides

@Nevada thank you! I can imagine! My induction is in a week, I hope that it starts naturally too 🙏

For labor induction I’m pretty sure it’s 30 min each side. So like 2 sessions of 15 minutes each side per day - that’s what was done in the studies that showed a benefit. It’s really the nipple stimulation that does it, so you can pump or you can massage your nipples for the same amount of time. Not sure if a Hakka would provide enough nipple stimulation for labor induction?

I’ve been pumping 15-20 minutes, 4-5 times per day for the last 3 days. I am getting colostrum and having contractions (strong, uncomfortable, but not painful every 20 min) with some mixed in cramping. Unfortunately my cervix is not wanting to make any changes despite the contractions. That’s the problem with pumping, in the few studies that have been done, it’s shown to help start contractions but not always make any changes to cervix. Which can actually in very rare cases cause hypercontractions that stress baby and lower heart rate and don’t do anything for labor. So just something to be aware of if contractions feel too strong. So anyway personally, now I’m adding s*x, raspberry leaf tea, and evening primrose oil to hopefully soften cervix so that these contractions can become more productive.

@Brittany I didn't know that pumping can cause just the contractions! So I'm adding the same things. I need only to buy the primrose oil. Thank you!
