Ringworm treatment while breastfeeding

I have some ringworm patches on my boob… some fairly close to the nipple. Anyone have any recommendations for treatment that I can use that is baby safe?! And any tips for stopping it spreading to her? Feeling really quite anxious and sad about this!

Hydrocortisone and rub it in well. It will not harm the baby. Teatree essential oil and a carrier oil like coconut oil will work too but take a little longer. If baby is younger than six months i would be cautious anyways and eventho its kinda long and wastefull.. use a wipe before feeding and reapply 🫡

If you suspect ringworm (a fungal infection) you need an antifungal treatment eg clotrimazole - same cream used for thrush. Steroids like hydrocortisone can make fungal infections worse. Clotrimazole can be safely used on the breast: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK501211/ However if you are using steroid cream it should not come into contact with baby's skin or mouth. Ringworm is highly contagious by contact spread and so baby should not come into contact with it if at all possible. I would suggest contacting your GP to confirm the diagnosis if any doubt, and suggest appropriate treatment. Breastfeeding helpline (if you are UK based) might also be able to advise 0300 100 0212

And uno clotromizole never ever worked for ringworm and i never experienced any side effects for hydrocortisone. This was a teen though I opted for the tea tree and coconut oil after that. Good advice tho fairsss

@Sophie thank you, I’ve been using clotrimazole on one patch that was far away from the nipple but was worried about using it on a patch closer to nipple that would be hard to ensure wasn’t going near baby. I really don’t want her to get it, but pumping doesn’t work for me and she won’t accept formula so just trying my hardest to keep it away from her as best as possible and keeping everything crossed.
