Not settling at night

My baby is 6 days old today, we spent his first 3 nights in hospital, his 4th night we were discharged and home so late that we didn’t really notice anything because we were all too tired and we hadn’t been sleeping in the hospital anyway. 5th night he decided he didn’t want to sleep when we went to bed and was on off feeding until 3am then he finally stayed asleep in his Moses basket until 7:30am. Last night he did not want to be in his Moses basket at all, only on us. He would be fast asleep put him in so we can sleep and instantly waking up. I ended gave up in the end and slept on the sofa with him on my chest after his 3:30 feed (I know we shouldn’t but I had no other option, not that I really slept anyway) he’s currently still asleep at 8am, I moved him from me to his sleepyhead while I had a cup of tea and no grizzling yet. I can’t do this every night and my partner is back to work on Tuesday. Anyone else having issues with their newborn settling at night? Should I be putting him in his Moses basket in the bedroom much earlier than usual going to bed?

Sorry I can't help but jumping on this post as I'm going through the exact same issue with my 2 week old :( x

Following too

All I can say is make sure that when you feed him, he’s getting enough milk, do skin to skin, make sure his nappy is clean as that will stop him from sleeping, try rocking him to sleep and then when you’re sure he’s fast asleep put him in his cot. In the meantime sleep as much as you can during the day while he’s sleeping. Also, when he has wake windows during the day interact with him so that he doesn’t just sleep through them. If you’re breastfeeding and you’re not sure whether you’re producing enough milk, you might want to try formula milk and see if after drinking that he’ll fall asleep. My baby was just like that until about day 11 when he suddenly started sleeping for 3-4 hour stretches in the cot (not saying that couldn’t change though).

My son is 7 days old today, and we have had the exact same issues. Discharged and home by night 3, baby will not be put down in the next to me, the Moses or any other surface that isn’t mine or my partners chest/arms. He’s feeding really well, lots of wet and dirty nappies, he gets good chunks of sleep, midwife coming today so going to ask then. In the meantime we’ve been taking it in turns to sleep. Hope you find a solution soon 🙏

What does he wear at night? My daughter did the same the first 2 nights we were home and we weren't getting to sleep until 6am. It was awful. My friend asked if we put her in a swaddle which we hadn't but we did have one so we tried it that night and since then, she would stay asleep when we put her in her crib. So our little routine now is ... Change nappy, get dressed in swaddle, feed until she falls off the boob in the dark (well, we have the telly on but is dimmed light) and wait 10 mins so she is fast asleep. Transfer her into crib and tuck her in with a cellular blanket and she stays asleep. She is just over 2 weeks old now so this has pretty much worked for 2 whole weeks now. Some nights are better than others BUT she does go in her bed and allows me to have little chunks of sleep at night between waking for a feed. I then try to nap in the day when she does. Good luck!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 Xx

I'm in the same situation at the minute. I went to put my 4 day old baby to bed last night at 9pm, took me to 1am to settle. Attempted to move to the moses basket and he screamed again. Then he seemed to settle on me on the sofa. We fell to sleep. He then woke at 3am 6am and 9am for a bottle and settled straight back in his moses basket. I'm trying infacol today as I'm not sure if he was just unsettled due to signs of having wind. I'm like you, and just can't do this every night, and my partner is back at work Wednesday and is tired out. X

@Abigail I could literally have written this word from word, as awful as it sounds I'm glad it's not just me going through this!X I hope it gets better for you. I've been using infocal but no luck so far
