How to get baby to sleep independently

How is everyone getting their babas to fall asleep at night independently?? I’m trying to put my little boy down to sleep semi awake like advised but he just wakes up, babbles away, sometimes cries if he doesn’t seem me or he keeps throwing the legs down… do I make sure he can still see me??? Like hold his hand through his cot until he falls asleep? Or what do I do 😭😭😭😭

Honestly, what I’ve realised from lots of 3am reading, lots of books and just consuming loads to do with sleep is that it really depends on the temperament of your baby. I’ve accepted I have a high needs baby and putting him down drowsy but awake just isn’t going to happen!x

From what I can tell it varies from baby to baby and from parent to parent. Personally we had to use a modified Ferber technique, put them down (awake or asleep doesnt really matter) when they start crying give it 10 minutes before going up and fussing (just rubbing chest or comfort but don’t pick the baby up), as soon as they calm and stop crying, leave the room. Crying starts, repeat cycle, only after an hour passes do you pick up for cuddles and then put them down once calm and repeat the cycle. The first night took us an hour, 2nd 30 mins, 3rd 5 mins. I appreciate this won’t for everyone as some people struggle listening to their baby scream but it’s what we had to do to prompt independant sleep.

I gave up lol she used to self settle off to sleep but sometimes it takes 40 mins, Im back to rock to sleep then transfer, takes about 7 mins then Im free 😂🙈
