Feeling very let down and now panicking

I’ve been in and out of the hospital 7 times in the past 7 weeks for high blood pressure. Every time my midwife or I has checked it has been high for weeks. Also had a couple of occasions where there has been protein in my urine but on those occasions my blood pressure was normal. Every time I go into the hospital my blood pressure comes down and they send me home saying nothing is wrong. I’m now 39+2 and went in for my usual midwife appointment and my blood pressure was high again so had to go to hospital again. This time one of the new trainee midwife’s suggested running a blood test as I hadn’t had one in a month and this was a very reoccurring issue. The main midwife was clearly a bit reluctant but they did one in the end. Just had a phone call to say the markers in my blood show I’m now at a significant risk for pre-eclampsia and need to be monitored very closely. There is now also talk of inducing me. Why is it that it’s taken so long to be taken seriously and there is now an actual problem!! Just makes me annoyed that I’ve been told so many times that I’m fine because they hadn’t properly checked. Any advice on preeclampsia/ inductions for similar issues would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry you’ve had to go through this x

No advice, just devil's advocate really. Your midwife will almost definitely have been looking out for preeclampsia at each appointment, unfortunately there is no way (at this point in pregnancy) to really prevent it. If you developed it, it would be picked up/you'd know about it. At the end of the day the test has shown you are at higher risk and don't yet have it so it hasn't been missed as such. I know you feel let down but try and let it go so that it doesn't cause you increased stress as that won't help! X

That’s what happened to me in my last pregnancy. I got induced at 38 weeks and my blood pressure was 150/100. The induction was awful because it was just a ton of tiny but painful contractions every couple of minutes for 2 days and eventually led to an emergency c section because my body wasn’t ready and wouldn’t dilate and babies heart rate started dropping. Evening turned out okay though. Just rest as much as you can, try to stay relaxed, everything will be okay in the end. Stay hydrated and eat lots of healthy snacks. I would opt for a c section because the induction process was the absolute worst. Good luck mama, you got this

Hi, I went through all of this too at around 35 weeks and had the blood test. The risk usually means likely to develop preeclampsia within the next week or so. They usually only do the test before 36 weeks. If your blood pressure is raised but comes down by itself then they don’t take any action but that also means you are ok. Mine did develop into preeclampsia but my bp went and stayed high that I needed meds and I had protein in my wee every 2 days (I was being closely monitored from 35 weeks). My bp kept spiking even on the meds so I was induced last Tuesday at 38+2. This was after a couple of sweeps. As you’re already 39 weeks I wouldn’t worry too much about the preeclampsia side but I would get a sweep done to see if your body naturally goes into labour and if not than you can ask to be induced as this is a maternal request and accepted from 39 weeks onwards

@Hannah So see what you are saying, hopefully he’s out before it’s a real problem.

@Ashley Thanks that’s really helpful to know your experience I will definitely bare that in mind. I’m next in at the weekend so will see what they say about induction/sections. Definitely going to try and rest as much as possible until then.

@Becky That’s really great to know thank you, feel really in the dark about what it all means so this helps put it into context! Hoping because I’m already 39 he comes before it becomes a real issue! Think I can safely kiss my home birth goodbye 😂

@Megan no problem, I had other issues too so in the end even though I was induced and I made it to 6cm I had to have a c-section due to scarring on my cervix and omg the recovery is not fun. So I would definitely try and avoid the section if you can and have him naturally xx
