You can have caffeine, some things same 200mg, others say more just not like a lot of coffee a day. All I crave is fruit, but it’s important to make sure you are still getting other calories in if the fruit is just cuties. Maybe talk to your OB about weight and calorie intake?
Mom of three kids here and never stopped drinking coffee during my pregnancies. You should keep yourself hydrated and eat regularly:)
I didn't stop drinking coffee either, but I did try to stay under 200 milligrams a day though.
Girl I did not stop drinking caffeine, my son is now almost 8 months old, he’s very advanced for his age, started scooting at 4 months full crawl by 6 months. Rolled over again (first time rolling was in the hospital) was again at 3 weeks. He sleeps all night and has since 2 months old, and he is also the easiest baby. I only gained my sons birth weight and an extra 4lbs without by the time I left the hospital I had already lost all of the weight plus a few more lbs. it happens. Everyone’s body is different. As long as you inform your ob/etc that you are still drinking caffeine you should be fine. Otherwise unless they tell you not to drink it for other medical reasons you don’t have to.
I pushed the 200mg limit daily while pregnant and had a perfectly healthy (and good sized) baby. The only risk ive seen is it could cause a lower birth weight but if the baby is measuring fine on ultrasounds, I wouldn’t worry!
@Rebecca it’s hard because I’m bigger…..she literally constantly says I can only gain 20 pounds total for this pregnancy. I’m 5’9 and I’m 246 pounds. I’m actually currently in the process of getting a new doctor because she literally loves to call me fat due to excess calories…..doesn’t understand the fact that I have mental illnesses and the medications I have tried all made me gain weight and it’s been hell trying to loose weight.
@Megan I wouldn’t mind having a smaller baby because I’m really scared because I was 10 pounds and my husband was 9 pounds lol not to mention my grandma was a 12 pound baby so big babies are a thing on my side of the family
@Katrina girl I felt this but the opposite. I ended up getting a new ob like 4 months into my pregnancy because my ob kept making comments about me being underweight as if I wasn’t trying to gain weight. She was like well you need to do more of this this and this. Maybe stop working out and burning those calories etc. when I switched over it was so much better for my mental health. Because my 2nd ob realized everyone has different bodies
I never stopped caffeine! 200mg is the recommended amount a day. I’m also 33w and have only gained like 5-7lbs as well. My Dr told me they aren’t concerned (in the scans he’s measuring right on track) and that babies are good at taking what they need from us.
I didnt stop with my last one, just cut back to like one a day. wasn't planning on stopping this one, but caffeine literally makes me want to puke and I'm miserable without it. I'm so tired and can't even rest cause I have to chase my little wild child all day long lol
I drank pop every single day and coffee half the week while pregnant. You can have up to 200 mg a day!
Does it make you a “bad” mom? No. Inevitably you’ll hear stories of moms putting WAY worse things in their bodies while pregnant and their babies were born perfectly healthy. I think it could be helpful to focus on WHY that caffeine limitation is recommended. I didn’t stop caffeine completely either, I just cut back and stayed within the 200mg guideline. I enjoy the taste of coffee and I don’t need caffeine to function so I was able to switch to 1/2 caff coffee in the morning and decaf at night. I also enjoy Coke Zero occasionally, and so I’d just buy the mini cans instead of the larger sizes.
Coffee is perfectly fine in moderation. Sorry that your OB is body shaming you over your weight, especially during pregnancy. Glad you're looking for a new one, I'd do the same. Isn't red dye #40 problematic for ADHD anyway? So a good thing if you have to cut it out. If you're eating very little, baby may be responding to ingesting anything, not just caffeine. I often have trouble finding foods that are appetizing too, and it always seems to be salty stuff that I don't need now that I have high BP. I feel like half of pregnancy is food struggles sometimes!
I never stopped drinking coffee for any of my pregnancies. I have 4 kids. Don't feel guilty, you gotta keep some sanity mama ❤️
