Baby weight

Hi just wanting to see where everyone’s babies are at with their weight! I know babies lose weight post birth my LG was born at 3.18kg she went down at her first weigh to 2.935kg she’s now above her birth weight at 3.21kg and she is 1month 4 days we have been discharged by midwife’s today but yet she was a little weird today (this midwife always comments on things like my latch yet other midwife’s and health visitors always said it looks really good not sure if I just stress around her) about her weight I know it’s only a little over her birth but she is super healthy looking has boob every 2h and then I also give her some expressed milk about 10-20ml extra a feed but she is only slowly moving her weight up she did have jaundice which she had to have light therapy 16h which would have dehydrated her plus they had to scan her organs and made her fast for 6.5h too which made her have a slight step back but I’m worried and feeling like I would be better off formula feeding now because I feel a little defeated! I also want to point out I’m not low on milk I pump after she feeds in the mornings I get a little over 100ml post her feed and 10-20ml on each both post feed during the day and I see milk coming out her mouth when she sucks Thank you for any advice and reassurance ♥️

My LG IS 12 days old today and dropped 5% body weight. She was born 9lb 5oz & last Tuesday, she went down to 8lb 13oz, and then on Monday at the midwife appt went to 8lb 15oz. The midwife said it was okay cause she gained 60g but is coming out tomorrow to weigh her again, and if no proper change will implement a feeding plan 🙄 We had the health visitor yesterday who weighed LG, and she weighed 9lb 2oz, so over night she's put on 2lb, nothing makes sense 🤔 And the professionals literally contradict themselves! Midwife says she should be feeding every 2 hours, and health visitor says she should be going no longer than 4 hours! So which one is it?! Baby is formula fed. We know our babies better than anyone, me and my hubby are sick of the information overload. I think we've just gotta know what our babies need and go from there xx

@Natalie honestly they have really confused me too at times from the start rather then saying this is what a good latch looks like they been adding and changing info they first staid nipple to nose then all of the nipple and areola in her mouth so I thought okay if I see the top in it’s good then app it’s not all of the bottom in then they said all noise is bad but now they said listen to her swallow🤦🏼‍♀️ I also had an issue with todays midwife as I’m sure her scales are wrong and need a reconfiguration she was weighed at her jaundice check up and weighed 3.195 on Monday and midwife today said 3.18 so app gone down???? So I went to a community centre after as I was super shocked and weighed her there and in 20 mins while we drove she went up to 3.2kg I’m just worried I’m not doing what’s best by her but the miscommunication and information is really not helpful 🤦🏼‍♀️

I completely understand! Obviously, I'm not BF, but I completely get it with the information. Another thing is, family & friends, they mean well, and it's great hearing their opinions, etc, but it's just information overload. Me & hubby have gotten so stressed about it. Also, LG, when she was born, was measured at 55cm, yet health visitor measured yesterday, and she was 52.5cm, so do they shrink as well?! Honestly, nothing is consistent. And they come out so swollen and puffy with excessive fluid. Surely there, "birth weight" isn't truly their actual weight. I had a c section, so I think fluid, etc, takes a while to come out of baby, but that's also another thing to think about xx

Hello, my little boy is 28 days tomorrow and lost quite a bit of weight. He wasn't able to latch, so I was expressing and he was drinking around 80ml every 2 to 4 hours. They say breast milk goes through them alot faster than formula. We are now on formula as my milk supply sadly dried up, but he is putting loads of weight on now. I did start doing some bottles, breasts, and some bottles formula before now being fully formula. He has 120ml and sometimes goes 2 hours, sometimes 4 hours. Does your little one finish a bottle when you are giving it? Xx

My baby was 3.8 when born. She lost 11% in the first 3 days. So every were very concerned about her weight as well. But she’s 3 weeks now and almost back to her birth weight.

My son turned 3 weeks old on Sunday and has put on 2lb since birth. I exclusively pump and he takes about 4oz a feed now, every 3 hours x

I'm stressed about this to no end. Mine was 3.175kg born. Dropped 8% of her birth weight. My latch turned out to not be deep enough despite loads of people looking at it and saying it was fine. She started off by gaining 45g really quickly, then everything else has been slow. So we had 5g in 5 days. Sorted my latch and now she's been weighed today and she's put on 10g in two days. She was 2 weeks old on Monday and we have another appointment in a week in the hope of more of a gain and the pressure I feel is unreal. I just feel like I'm failing her everytime she's weighed and she's not there 😞

My bby boy was 2.5kg, breastfed never lost weight now he’s 4kg one month later. I also pump n he drinks 120ml/4oz each feeding

My LG was born 7lb 8oz and is now 9lb 12oz at 4 weeks old. Can you EBF a baby TOO much?! 🥴😳 BUT I’ve worked on the principle (and been told) that if she’s gaining, even if it’s just slowly, you’re fine! They grow at different rates from each other and in spurts so unless she appears unwell or isn’t feeding/having wet and dirty nappies and/or is losing weight, you’re good! Hope that helps somehow.

eurgh i’ve had such a tough time with this. LG born at 8lbs 13oz and on day 3 had dropped 12.9% and was like 7lbs 8 or something. snarky midwife sent us straight to hospital and were put on a feeding plan. she was coming back everyday to weigh her and moaning every time as she still wasn’t really gaining much weight. She’s 2.5 weeks old now and still under birth weight at 8lbs 4oz but i had GD and one of the lady’s in hospital said it was super common as at birth she was all puffy, full of fluid (i had c section) and had been pumped full of my sugar so when she dropped it was probably more of her realistic weight. that’s the only advice i’ve listened to now and still when we get weighed every week by the same snarky midwife i just ignore her now as i know i’m feeding baby enough she’s healthy and happy and that’s all that matters. xx

@Kate I didn’t realise c section babies are more full of fluid! I had a c section too and looking at pictures of her she was super puffed up I feel like this probably also was the case for me and why her weight went down so much! Xx

You are doing an amazing job to both breastfeed and pump. She is gaining so I would continue with breastfeeding as much as you can on demand and topping up if needed. No need to add formula unless they are losing weight. My LG was born 5lb 8oz and was the same weight after a week. She is now 3 weeks old and 6lb 8oz EBF.

Hi! I’m going through something similar! Both my first daughter and now my son lost around 5% in the first week and they took almost 4 weeks to gain back their birth weight. Midwife said that the important thing is that he’s gaining weight, very slowly but overall he looks healthy. We haven’t been discharged yet as he needs to put on 30g to get to his birth weight. (He was 3240g), and is still a bit jaundice (although he didn’t need treatment). From hospital they said I need a feeding plan, but midwife said not to stress, to offer him both breasts (he had a shallow latch which we have now sorted out). From my first I’ve learned that every baby growth differently. My kids are small and that’s ok, they are healthy! As far as they are alert, have dirty and wet nappies and are gaining some weight you are doing the best you can!!

@Julia yeh!! when they come out the vagina the fluid is squeezed out as they come down the pelvis xxx
