Hi @Iona thanks so much for this, that’s helpful and it’s reassuring to know that I’m not alone in my thoughts/feelings x
I was terrible with PPD and wasn’t diagnosed until after the fact - my nurse (I developed type 2 diabetes due to poor diet relating to my PPD following GD during pregnancy) noticed how I was describing how I lived and said that without diagnosis’s at the time I wouldn’t know but that she was certain I had it. I was terrified to leave my baby or to even cook whilst he was nearby imagining I would drop hot stuff on him 🙈 we moved to a house and I got so much better as the fuss of leaving alleviated and I was surrounded by really nice neighbours. If you are feeling down, or need someone to speak to - feel free to send me a message anytime :)
@Iona that sounds like it was really tough for you and glad you have good support around you now. Thanks so much 🥰
I found the health visitor would ask me and I needed to be brave enough to tell them. Unfortunately I moved when my LB was 3 months old and it was to a new area and despite registering with the new doctor I didn’t see a health visitor till he was over 1 and in that time I suffered so badly and with being in a new area I had little to no support. The place was a top floor maisonnette making leaving a big task and one I often avoided so I was locked in with a baby on my own as partner worked shifts. I got through it but yes there is little support if the HV isn’t visiting or you don’t tell them. If you are worried about your health postpartum - phone your GP office, they will help you but don’t rely just on them, search your local Facebook groups for mum groups.
