Second degree tear stitches

I had to have quite a lot of stitches as had a second degree tear. I’m 11 days postpartum and apparently they are healing well but oh my god… the itching, uncomfortable horrible feeling is ruining the time with my newborn now. I genuinely feel like having the stitches done initially was worse than the actual birth and now they are the worst part of recovery. I can’t sleep as they’re so uncomfortable, my baby slept a solid 4-5 hour block last night and I could only sleep for one hour of it. Midwife said it’s all part of the healing but please, does anyone have any tips to help?! Willing to try anything

I have 2nd degree tears too and I'm using Vagisil. To be fair, I haven't asked anyone if I can, so please do that before following my advice 😅but I couldn't deal with the itching anymore 😭

I am day 3 of stitches and it’s horrible 😩😩 I feel more sore today than I did straight after having them! It’s so hard not knowing if they are healing or not, I feel like I want someone to come and check them daily just to make sure they are okay. It’s so frustrating 😩😩

I also felt the stitches were worse than giving birth.

I agree about the pain being worse than the actual birth! I used a cooling pad thing when it was really bad of an evening and it helped a little. I'd also recommend pouring/squirting water on it as you wee and at other points as I found it helpful? I'm on day 15 now and it feels much better. I've also had a course of antibiotics too. Hopefully it won't be for too much longer and you will be able to enjoy your newborn bubble a bit more! X

Day 10 here and it’s absolutely killing😫 i’m in agony, midwife told me not to sit with my legs crossed but that’s the only position i can feed the baby in so I’ve practically been sat cross legged since i’ve been home🙃. I use spritz for bits, my bathroom is freezing so i just keep it on the windowsill in there but you can put it in the fridge as well, i find it always helps briefly

So pleased to hear that I’m not the only one 😭 (although obviously not good that all of us are suffering!). I’m finding the whole stitching part really hard to process, it took the midwife 2 hours to do mine.

I’m still quite traumatised from being stitched😂 4 shots of anaesthetic and what she had to do after to make sure she hadn’t stitched anywhere else😫. Bloody mortified
