Postpartum with Hashimoto’s Disease

Hello, I am currently 5 months postpartum. During my pregnancy I had to take thyroid medication. During my pregnancy I felt I didn’t really feel any side effects. Now that I am postpartum I noticed my hair thinning out a lot and my hair seems to be falling. I’ve recently also noticed that I’d wake up during the night and find it hard to go back to sleep. I’ve also been feeling tired/ sluggish. I am a single mom of 3. And I don’t know if it’s just stress, being overwhelmed/ stimulated. Any other moms out there have hashimotos or thyroid dysfunction? First time ever dealing with hypothyroidism.

I am at the 5 month mark and my hair is falling out like crazy too, but I am pretty sure it’s just the postpartum shred. I have Hashimoto’s and have been on thyroid meds for 10+ years. Those symptoms sound like maybe your thyroid levels are low and you medication MAY need to be increased. I would time to your doctor and have him run labs to check your thyroid function. Those don’t sound like side effects of thyroid meds, at least not in my experience.

Thanks for the advice hun. I currently take 50 mg levothyroxine and I am due for a follow up in march. The last time I had bloodwork done I think was back in August. Levels came back normal. My doctor also told me that my body is still postpartum so it can take up to a year to go back to normal.

I was on 50 of levothyroxine throughout pregnancy for my hypothyroid and TSH levels were monitored by OB during my pregnancy , I gave birth, and no one decided to recheck levels so I asked my pcp to take over my dose again from my OB. My TSH was zero! And my free T4 and T3 were high. I had swung the other way. They stopped my meds and will be rechecking soon. The hair falling out was insane, I had palpitations, and I wanted to eat the house all the time, nothing satisfied the hunger. I’d advocate to get your levels rechecked and make sure the dosage is still correct.
