Yeah I do agree however there are lots of articles saying it’s safe and it’s a good supplement with many health benefits for the baby, given it has to have the right ingredients not all are safe.
I’d check confirmation still with midwife / consultant. So many things interact with other supplements / hormones… it always worries me as I have to be careful due to medication
Thanks Kerry, I check with my midwife on her thoughts
I stopped protein shakes and creatine because of the fact the don’t test on pregnant woman.
They haven’t been tested because things are tested on pregnant women as a rule, but they know from anecdotal evidence that no adverse effects has been caused. So as your creatine is just creatine and your protein shakes are normal with things like added caffeine, the are fine. Most protein shakes are whey protein (milk protein left over from making cheese). Protein shakes are also just a food product, so just like bottle of milk or cans of beans they don’t have to safe suitable for pregnant women, food stuffs only have to say if it’s not suitable/safe x
Creatine is naturally found in the body anyway and the information I could find said it was actually found to be beneficial. And as Mish said. If your protein shake is just whey protein shake then it's basically just milk. A lot of it is just because they will never run full clinical/ any other type of trial on a pregnant woman because it would never be ethical.
Hiya, I would recommend Arbonnes FeelFit protein. Again it's not even tested on pregnant women due to ethics but it's a very clean vegan protein, derived from rice, pea and cranberry. My friend used it with both of her pregnancies due to awful HG sickness and needed something which worked well. The best thing to do is choose a product and check in with your healthcare professionals.
I use applied nutrition whey protein shakes. I asked my midwife and she said it would be fine. I contacted the company to check caffeine levels etc and they said it was all fine. I just have one shake a day. Normally over cereal or porridge 🙂
@Mikaila we use My Protein too. My other half has tried other protein powders in the past but prefers My Protein. Personally I stopped consuming artificial produce throughout my pregnancy and has to stop exercising of any kind as I was really ill, some days just walking made me throw up. I would defo speak to your midwife (or baby team) about consuming then throughout your pregnancy
@Mikaila sorry it was a back off you and a reply to OP. I'm 8 month pp and struggling to get into any kind of routine
Thank you girls this has all been really useful
Will defo take my prowlers to my midwife to check x
I've been having nuzest vegan protein powder throughout my pregnancy and I and my baby are totally fine. If anything he's a big baby. 😂 I stopped taking creatine because I wanted the water to go to my baby and my system rather than in my muscles because I wasn't going to lift as heavy or do as intense workouts (I did crossfit about 2/3 times per week and throughout pregnancy) so I thought it was a bit pointless to take creatine as it makes you retain water. Hope this helps!
Most wouldn’t have been tested with pregnant women so wouldn’t be safe as no idea if it has an impact
