What to take for induction?

Packed most of my hospital bag as I'm due to get induced in 2 weeks at 37 weeks gestation and just wondering if anyone has any tips on what to pack as i know it can be quite a lengthy difficult process.

Pack some fave snacks , fave drinks , magazine , book , word searches , maybe download some films

Lots of things to keep you entertained. I would also suggest an eye mask and earplugs to help sleep. I also took my pregnancy pillow and a blanket so I was more comfy at night. Perhaps some nice spray, like pillow spray to help you feel relaxed and more at home. Also, when you check in, ask if they have any side rooms available. You’ll get more rest and better privacy.

take some headphones, i wish i did to drown out the noise of the ward and other people x

I would pack some music, headphones, playlists. Some nice snacks and drinks. I took fruit and nuts to help keep full & energy levels at a good level. I took some clary sage to help induce labour, some chocolate, nice warm socks, comfy floaty dress of some kind, hair bobbles, I downloaded scrabble app to play with my partner, maybe some cards or a game of some kind, magazine, something you feel comfy to walk in

Headphones/earplugs and sleep mask is a MUST. The ward is so noisy! Bring things for a shower, slippers and PJ's - you're not a patient really so wear things that make you comfy rather than a gown. Also things that make you happy to boost that oxytocin! Also to add, I had an induction with every step and then an emergency c section at the end - the worst bit was the sweeps so don't let the horror stories get into your head, it's actually pretty chill!

I went in, in the afternoon and didn’t have my waters broken until the following morning. So I would just say snacks and any forms of entertainment you enjoy incase you’re in a similar situation. I had a book and my iPad, I would definitely advise headphones too

Hi Chloe, I too was induced at 27 weeks due to GD, I went in Sunday and I had her Tuesday morning and was home by 1 that day, packing wise I packed a suitcase for me dad and babe and I put in snacks drinks pyjamas, a nightie a wash bag some clothes for dad, clothes for baby charger etc I deffo recommend taking a pillow in each and we took a tablet in to watch TV x

I took comfy clothes that I didn't mind walking around it, a tablet to watch movies on and snacks. I was glad I took snacks as the menu at lunch and dinner were the same and they also kept bringing in my hot meal whilst I was attached to the CTG monitor so couldn't move to eat it and they took it away after 30 mins if it was a hot meal so I ate snacks alongside a sandwich instead of getting my husband to grab hot food x

Hiya, I was induced at 39 weeks due to having a big baby. I had the pessary inserted at 1pm, started contracting by 9pm that same evening then was in active labour (4cm dilated) by 4:45am and she was born at 10:03am, waters broke by themselves aswell! I was expecting to be in there for days, but it was quite a quick positive experience ☺️ main things I found useful was nighties and pjs of course! A water bottle with a straw for when in labor, lip balm (gas and air dries your mouth and lips out so this was a god send) slippers, snacks, lucozade (this helped through labor lol) 💗

Snacks, squash, chargers, headphones, lipbalm, spare pjs, slippers, dressing gown, extra pillow. I took my mum with me too, she was my birthing partner xx

@Kelly 100% lip balm if you take gas and air wow my lips were dry!

Hello, we have a WhatsApp group, message me if any of you mums want to join. We are definitely a mixed bunch so there is always someone who has got advice. Definitely the best group I’ve found x

Phone charger with a LONG cable. Snacks and download some films to watch. Book to read if you like to read. Headphones and things to help you sleep are a must. That ward did my head in. Massive bottle of water and bottles of lucozade sport. Slipper socks or slippers.

Have a second bag packed at home that a partner or family member can easily access if needed with extra clothing and things for you, I went to be induced and nothing worked for me so I ended up being in for 4 days before having a c section (5days in total) and snacks is a must, I don’t know where you are but my hospital food was nasty I ended up eating jacket potatoes for 3days lunch and dinner and even they were solid 😂 And also I took some puzzle books and my iPad with me to watch films and tv shows, as I found it so difficult to sleep

As for what to pack, take pjs that are airy the wards are so warm and the windows don’t open far enough to cool it down, my hospital had desk fans available so I asked for one of those. Maternity pads I was given but I did take some i wasn’t sure what they would have. Breast pads, even if you aren’t planning on breast feeding, I woke up in the morning after having baby and was soaked through 😂 I took some bottles of ready made formula, as I was planning to breastfeed but after having a c section I wasn’t mentally ready to do so and once opened they will put them in the fridge for you to keep them fresh. Sliders/slippers for walking around the ward Snacks and drinks (lucozade sport) Things to keep you occupied if all goes well you won’t really need them but from personal experience I needed them to keep me occupied 😂
