Classes

Just signed my daughter up for a dance class. I didn’t realize parents can’t be in the room until afterwards and she’s already super hyped up about it so I can’t back out now… tell me it’s going to be alright?! It’s only for 30 minutes once a week, but this will be the first time she’s ever been on her own 🥺 definitely gets me nervous.

Exact same thing happened to us! Are you able to see into the studio while they are dancing? Ours has a 2 way mirror so parents can see in but they can’t see us, and any time my daughter needs me I just slip in really quickly. Our daughter has also never been on her own before but she’s comforted knowing that I am right behind the mirror so even though she can’t see us she knows I’m there.

Same thing with my baby , no parents allowed in , it’s also 30 minutes once a week the first few weeks were tough but now he goes in by himself and loves it ! It’s definitely good practice for them they start preschool/preK

I wish my daughter first time was 45mins & no way of me looking into the class room 🥺, but I feel I was more at ease with it because she was my sisters dance teacher for 19 years….but it’s definitely nerve wracking my daughter class was 45mins long, this year it’s an hour 🥺

It'll be great once you both get the hang of it. She can always ask for you partway thru the class if she needs help going potty.

@Rosie unfortunately no im not able to see into the studio during class. 🙁 a 2 way mirror would be really nice!

@Shaliz is your son outgoing? Or is he more shy? My daughter is a social butterfly and loves to say hi to ppl and even hugged all of the dance teachers the night we signed her up. I’m just hoping that means she’ll be okay without me and not sad. That’s the part that kills me.

@Onayvis yeah that would help me out if I actually knew the teachers but this is a first for us. We’ve never done any kind of classes, even with my older boys. So I’m like 😳 this is making me uncomfortable but I really want to do it for her. I know it’ll be worth it once she makes friends and has a good time.

@Lindsey they have a position for a parent to volunteer to help during class but since I have a newborn I can’t do it 😔 but I definitely won’t be leaving the property (they suggest you can go run errands or grab a snack) just in case.

We tried this and our daughter freaked out. She was so excited to go but was really upset when we left her in the room. We went 3x, on the 4th she was hysterical before we even went in the building. I gave up on it after that and feel guilty about it now. She still talks about how scary it was months later and I'm afraid I've ruined dance class for her. I'd see how she responds but I also don't think that this should be done without a viewing window.
