i've been breastfeeding 27 months (pregnant for 9 of those too) and decided not to get any. i'm desperate for new tattoos but know i won't be breastfeeding forever so will wait!
I don’t think tattooists would be insured.
My understanding is that there is currently no medical research at all on the subject, therefore it can’t be guaranteed either way. The theoretical concern is how small the ink particles become, and where they can travel in the body. This is usually harmless, but if you’re breastfeeding, could it get to the milk supply? On the other hand, an infection absolutely could, and taking antibiotics during pregnancy can get a little complicated, so better to be safe from that perspective 🤷🏻♀️ but same, just had my little boy and I am dying to get a tattoo to commemorate him 💙 but I’ve decided to wait until I stop breastfeeding just to be on the safe side. X
I got a tattoo to commemorate my youngest son and I'm now 6 months pp and ebf and it doesn't affect your supply or breastfeeding your child at all.
Anybody reputable won’t do it
As mentioned before any reputable tattoo artist will not tattoo anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. They will only tattoo you once you have stopped breastfeeding
I had my tattoo done for my little boys when he was 6 months old and I was still breastfeeding.
Probably not and you can’t have many beauty treatments still either x
Most artists wouldn’t do it.
Artists I trust have said nope not till after Artists who have carpet in the studio and are work I could do better have said yes Although there isn’t a legal or strong medical answer the clear divide in the types of artists who say yes and no tells me all I need
Hello! Tattooer here! Best to wait until you finish breastfeeding to avoid any chance of infection and some other factors :-) I personally wouldn’t recommend getting tattooed by an artist who’s happy to do this for you! Enjoy your new tattoo when you do get it! ❤️
Personally I've been advised not to, I have 4 tattoos myself and have been itching to get another (I'm 15+3w pregnant) and to be honest a lot of reputable artists are not likely to tattoo a breastfeeding mother or anyone whose pregnant, i think it has something to do with possible infections and it affecting milk (don't quote me on that) but yeah definitely ask medical advice first x
