They don’t need to be awake to burp, propping him up onto your shoulder might mean he can stay asleep and you can wind him a little bit to see if any comes up. Or if you just want to put him down, he’ll soon let you know if he’s uncomfortable!
I keep my little one on me as I burp her and she finds the movements soothing she falls asleep every time and if anything needs to come out it comes anyway ;)
Hey! Mum to a 4mo here. I know this is probably quite controversial but I rarely burped my little one. She seemed content without me doing it and I didn’t think it was worth waking her to do it most of the time. I knew when she had trapped wind because she would squirm and fuss and therefore that was my queue to burp her. Other than that, I left her alone. You will know whats correct and right for your LO. I found if I burped her when she didn’t need it, she would just throw up everywhere and that seemed counter intuitive to me. I truly believe that not all babies need burping. I hope you find your happy medium 🧡
I’ve been told it’s better to burp them even if they’ve fallen asleep because they’ll probably wake them selves up uncomfortable anyway so it’s better to do it straight away xx
If he’s happy and calm let him sleep. What I use to do with my daughter is burp her while say was sleeping on my chest she never woke up. And occasionally I still do burp her when she’s asleep on my chest. 11 months this month.
My little girl don’t burp during the night! She falls straight to sleep no issues, don’t worry too much unless he seems to be in discomfort
@Francesca I agreee!
I agree and would leave him sleep if he’s happy. I’m the same sometimes and worry that my baby hasn’t brought up all his wind after feeds. I keep him upright for about 20-30 minutes on my shoulder and if he falls asleep and seems content I put him down then.
Hi lovely, if he seems happy he should be fine, if you want to put him to bed do. Get some rest yourself too whilst he is asleep as hard as I know that can be!
