Animal sounds..

Shouldn’t my baby being saying animal sounds now? He is 17 months and does not say 1 animal sound yet. He is not in day care so I know him not being in a learning environment hinders that but I just feel like he should understand some sounds by now. He says other words like hi, bye-bye, mama, dada, go, ow, wow, no, get, uh - oh ***pic for tax***

My baby is 17 months and doesn’t say animal sounds. He says words, but no animal noises. Every kid is different 🫶🏻

@Kyleigh thank you! My mom keeps trying to ease my mind by telling me that boys are slower than girls. He didn’t say mama till he was 14 months old

@Katie Eller I’ve always heard that too, and my son hasn’t even said mama yet. He says dada and other words. Which is hilarious to me considering he has 2 moms 😂

@KyleighAwww he will. I kept having to tell myself that. It just isn’t fair most babies say dada first and we do all the work. 😂

My 17 month old goes to daycare and only says two animal noises. She has a lot of words, just doesn’t seem interested in the animal sounds. She’s more cautious than the other kiddos in her class. Every kids is definitely unique!

I wouldn't worry about that. He's making good strides in word development which matters most. If you're interested in developing animal sounds, maybe find an animal that he likes such as a lion and imitate the sounds more often along with visuals. But honestly that will come eventually....he's still doing good.

How often do you practice with him? Mine says momma and dadda MUAH and kinda says hi, but lots of sounds. I have taught him Vroom Vroom when we play with his cars and now he hums vroom vroom when he plays with them 🤣 superrr cute. 🥰 but I’m struggling to get him to focus and learn so I try and play ms Rachel since she keeps his attention but not sure if he’s learning or just watching

How often do you practice animal sounds? He will get it! Sometimes it just takes a little longer. We like to do a stuffed animal and while playing with it I do the animal sound, I think it helped with the association!

I don’t think it matters if he is not around animals. My daughter is around them so her first words were doggie and woof woof. Animal sounds are the same as any other word.

Practice practice practice animal sounds and he will get them. My daughter knows nearly all of hers and it was through SO much practice lol she would get annoyed with me asking her

My daughter didn’t really talk much at all until she turned 2 and then boy did it start. She’s almost 2.5 now. Talking more and more.
