Funded hours

I've just rang a nursery to see if they offer the hours. But they said they only offer full days so only 11 of the 15 would be used and we'd still have a fee to pay... can someone explain, because I was too shy to ask her to keep on explaining it and I just really don't understand đź«

The funded hours are for term time only (not school holidays) so it works out at approx 11 hrs per week split over the year. That's my understanding. Also many charge for meals, nappies etc when using funded.

Thank you so much. Ohh okay, because she said they're open 51 weeks a year, so we would have to pay for the sessions when it's school holiday time? Yes, she did say it would cost for meals, but that's fine 🙂

Yes the Gov website advises it covers term time only even though nursery's are usually open 51w per year. So they can stretch the 15hr over the 51w, which is roughly 11hrs per week.

Most will stretch it over the full year meaning you get less hours per week. Works out the same really as you’d be paying full costs during school holidays otherwise. Government don’t pay them enough per hour to cover consumables such as food etc so most will charge extra for these or they wouldn’t have enough money xx

Funded hours cover school term time only (38 weeks per year). Day nurseries tend to do longer houses 7am -6.30pm is the usual around me, they will use the hours for a full day (cover all the hours even if your little one doesn't attend the full time ). It works out at 11 hours per week if you split it over 51 weeks.
