Speech

Hi ladies! My daughter is 28 months - as of now she says roughly around 200 words and can form a couple of sentences - “I like that” “that’s mine” “I love you” “what are you doing?”. Her doctor says she perfectly on track with her speech. She does understand a lot as well (like directions etc) My issue is that whenever I take her to toddler classes with kids really close to her age, they seem so advanced! Like talking in full sentences and like fairly clearly. I have always read to my daughter- we read every day like 10+ books (she loves books) - and we do flash cards, activities basically all the things…. And really can’t help but feel like is she behind or this normal?

My son only says around 30 words and is putting words together but not really sentences, when we had our 2 year review he did score low on the verbal part (not the understanding part) and that was purely based on the fact that he wasn’t saying many of the words on the list she read despite the fact he had a whole list of other words he was saying and she said she wasn’t concerned from what she saw of him interacting with me. I do think they’re a lot kids in the same boat and equally a lot of kids who are saying a lot more. I personally am not worried and think he’ll get there when he gets there 😊 I would be concerned if he wasn’t saying anything or not progressing or not understanding, he understands absolutely everything I say

My little girls the same age and is exactly the same ☺️

I'd absolutely say feels normal. Our LOs focus on specific skills first, as an example My LB didn't walk independently till.he was 19m however he could do puzzles and fit shapes from around 12m and also started talking around similar age. Unless there are development issues I'd say they all catch up at some point. I'd try not to focus on other toddlers in that situation, you're doing great Momma !
