Breast feeding/expressing

My baby was diagnosed with CMPA a few days ago and has been on SMA Althera. Before that I was breastfeeding and expressing. I’m not sure the milk is agreeing with her and she is much more distressed throughout the day. I’ve still been expressing to maintain a supply just in case but I’m now thinking that I’m just going to give up dairy and give her breastmilk. Does anyone have any experience with this?

My daughter had CMPA and she went through 8 formula you might have to do similac anthuium or enfamil nutrimegen or those special kinds as for breast feeding they told me to not consume dairy and breast feed that if you eat anything that has dairy and yes crackers, cereal food again you have to read everything because if you do youbhave to pump as much as you can within 5-8 hours to take all that out so your child doesn't upset stomach that bloated and makes it hard and then some. It's hard kind of like going cold turkey on every dairy products and all you read have to be non dairy

I exclusively pumped and went milk and soya free. The soya was harder than the milk tbh but once you're in the swing of it it wasn't too bad, just meant shopping took a bit longer when checking the labels as it's in so much stuff. Six weeks later she was doing amazing, no gastro issues, skin was clear, and we were even cutting down her gaviscon as her reflux was getting better. I couldn't carry on expressing and she's now on formula (was Aptamil Pepti, now SMA Alfamino) and it's been a nightmare ever since. Her skin issues are creeping back in, her reflux is back even worse and she's also on omeprazole and she is so constipated. My supply has dried up but I regret stopping

I went dairy free and my son's CMPA symptoms were essentially non-existent after about 2 weeks. It's definitely hard to get started but once you get into the swing of things its completely doable. You just have to make sure to read everything because there's milk in so much that you don't expect!

@MK thank you! So could I essentially go dairy free tomorrow and start feeding her again or do I need to use the formula in the interim while it leaves my system?

@Charley thank you! My baby has been given lansoprazole for her reflux and I think that combined with the formula is just not working well with her body! But I think not being able to have soya as well will be challenging 😂

I believe it takes about 72 hours for dairy proteins to leave your breast milk. I waited a full week to be on the safe side.

As it’s only been a few days then I imagine transitioning straight back to breast milk would be doable. Cutting dairy is also doable. There are quite a few on here and various FB groups who offer great support and guidance. I’m dairy free for the same reason and exclusively pump. I don’t think it is easy but I feel like it is best for managing his CMPA and I have never tried formula as I feel like it would be hard to transition him and I dread reflux and constipation again. The main thing is just checking every single label! Time consuming but you get there. Good luck with whichever route you choose!

Milk and egg free here for almost a year now. It was challenging to begin with as all my favourite foods have dairy in or egg but I’m used to it now and it’s kept little one healthy and happy. Still breastfeeding at almost 14 months just because that way I know he is getting the nutrients till he is eating solids better.

You would be have to wait 2 weeks for you to be dairy fee before you feed your breast milk. Just use formula until then. My sister did that for her LO.
